The Westin Harbour Castle to Pearson airport drive covers about 28 km from 1 Harbour Square to Terminal 1 or 3, typically 25 to 45 minutes via the Gardiner Expressway and Highway 427. Weekday mornings, Friday afternoons and event nights at the arena or Rogers Centre stretch it. TorontoBlackLimousine.com sets the pickup from your flight time and shows the fixed fare before you confirm.
The Westin Harbour Castle is the big twin-tower hotel at the foot of Bay Street, with the lake on one side and the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal next door. Our waterfront hotels car service page covers the lakeshore hotels and their trips in general. This post looks at one journey in detail: Harbour Square to Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and back, and how its timing changes from 5 a.m. to midnight.

How does the Westin Harbour Castle to Pearson airport run actually go?
From the hotel's front drive the car is on Harbour Street or Lake Shore Boulevard within a minute and climbs onto the westbound Gardiner Expressway a few blocks later. From there it is a straight run along the lake past Exhibition Place and Humber Bay, then north on Highway 427 into the airport. The whole trip is about 28 km. When the Gardiner flows, the chauffeur is on the 427 in about 15 minutes and at the departures curb 10 to 15 minutes after that.
You book in our reservation engine with "Westin Harbour Castle" or 1 Harbour Square, your flight number and the passenger and bag count. The engine shows a fixed, all-in fare before you confirm, and the chauffeur messages the car details when he arrives at the entrance a few minutes early.
How long does the drive take at different times of day?
These are dispatcher planning figures for a weekday, door to departures curb, before any weather or collision delay:
| Leaving Harbour Square | Typical drive to Pearson | What drives it |
|---|---|---|
| 4:30 to 6:00 a.m. | 22–30 min | Empty Gardiner, overnight roadwork wrapping up |
| 6:00 to 9:30 a.m. | 35–50 min | Inbound traffic on the 427; westbound is lighter but merges slow |
| 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. | 25–35 min | Usually the easiest window of the day |
| 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. | 40–60 min | Westbound Gardiner and 427 northbound both heavy |
| 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. | 25–35 min | Clears quickly unless an event is letting out |
| After 10:00 p.m. | 20–30 min | Fast, but watch for overnight lane closures |
Saturdays are usually closer to the midday figure all day. Sundays in summer can be slow in the late afternoon as cottage and day-trip traffic comes back into the city.
Which route does the chauffeur choose, and why?
The Gardiner and the 427 are the default because they are direct. The alternatives matter when they are not. Lake Shore Boulevard runs beneath and beside the Gardiner and takes over when the expressway is closed for weekend maintenance, which the City announces in advance and Ontario 511 shows live. The northern option, up the Don Valley Parkway or a north-south street to Highway 401 and west to the 427, is slower in distance but sometimes faster when a collision blocks the Gardiner at the Humber.
Multi-year rehabilitation work on the Gardiner has brought lane restrictions along the western stretch, so the dispatcher checks the conditions for your hour rather than relying on habit. You do not need to know any of this; tell us the flight and we choose the road.
What time should I leave the Westin for my flight?
Our working rule from Harbour Square is three hours before an international departure and two hours before a domestic or US flight, then adjust:
- Add 15 to 20 minutes if your pickup falls between 6:00 and 9:30 a.m. or 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. on a weekday.
- Add 15 minutes on a Friday afternoon in summer or before a long weekend.
- Add 20 minutes when snow is falling or forecast; the lake wind glazes the Gardiner quickly.
- Add 15 minutes if an event lets out at Scotiabank Arena or Rogers Centre in the hour before your pickup.
- Add 10 minutes when you have several large cases, a stroller or ski bags to check.
US-bound passengers clear US preclearance at Pearson before boarding, which is why the two-hour rule does not shrink for a short hop to New York or Chicago. Our post on how early to arrive at Pearson explains each step at the terminal.

How do event nights near the hotel change the plan?
The Westin sits in the middle of Toronto's busiest event zone. Scotiabank Arena, home of the Maple Leafs and Raptors and many big concerts, is about 1 km north; Rogers Centre is about 1.5 km west; the waterfront festivals at Harbourfront Centre are a short walk along Queens Quay. On those nights, the streets around Bay, York and Lake Shore fill in the hour before the start and again for about 45 minutes after the finish.
For a departure on an event evening, we set the pickup earlier and may use a quieter street for the start of the drive. For an arrival into the hotel on a game night, the chauffeur may drop you on Queens Quay or Harbour Street rather than at the front drive if police are directing traffic. Check the Blue Jays games and Scotiabank Arena games and concerts pages for typical crowd patterns, and our Scotiabank Arena exit plan if you are going to the show yourself.
What about the Toronto Waterfront Marathon and summer closures?
The Toronto Waterfront Marathon, usually held in October, closes Lake Shore Boulevard and nearby streets for most of a Sunday morning, and summer brings parades, runs and festivals that close lanes along the waterfront. On those days the hotel's front drive can be reachable only from the north. The dispatcher checks the City's road-closure notices when your booking comes in and, if needed, sends you a map pin a short walk from the entrance. Plan an extra 20 to 30 minutes for any Sunday-morning flight in race season. Our Toronto Waterfront Marathon page covers the race-day picture.
Is the UP Express a sensible alternative from Harbour Square?
For some travellers, yes, and we will say so. Union Station is about 1 km north of the hotel, a 10 to 15 minute walk, and the UP Express runs from Union to Terminal 1 in about 28 minutes, stopping at Bloor, Mount Dennis and Weston. A solo traveller with a carry-on flying from Terminal 1 in daylight can do that comfortably.
It is a worse fit with two or more large cases, children, a Terminal 3 departure (which needs the airport's inter-terminal train after the UP Express), a flight before the first trains, or winter wind on the walk to Union. The Pearson UP Express vs limo guide sets out the trade-offs, and this table summarises them for the Westin:
| Option from the Westin | Door to curb | Luggage handling | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| UP Express via Union Station | Walk plus train, Terminal 1 only | You carry everything | Solo, light bags, daytime |
| Taxi from the hotel rank | Direct | Driver helps with the trunk | Short-notice trips |
| Booked black car | Direct to T1 or T3 | Chauffeur loads and unloads | Families, executives, early flights |
| Hourly chauffeur | Direct, after other stops | Bags stay locked in the car all day | Late flights after a day of plans |
Which car suits the Westin to Pearson trip?
Match the vehicle to people and bags, not to the occasion:
- Business sedan: one or two travellers with two checked bags.
- First-class sedan: an S-Class for executives and guests you are hosting.
- SUV: families of up to six with four large cases, or two people with golf clubs.
- Premier luxury SUV: the same space with a more formal finish.
- Executive Sprinter: a team of up to seven heading to the same flight.
If you are not sure, put the bag count in the booking notes and the dispatcher will tell you if a sedan is too tight.
How does the return from Pearson to the Westin work?
The chauffeur tracks your flight, so delays and early landings move the pickup automatically. When you are through baggage and customs, walk to the terminal's designated pre-arranged pickup area on the arrivals level, as Toronto Pearson describes, tell the pickup-area dispatcher you have a pre-arranged ride, and the chauffeur pulls up. Included waiting is 30 minutes from actual landing for Canadian domestic and US flights and 60 minutes for other international arrivals. Meet and greet inside arrivals with a name board is an optional add-on at booking.
Eastbound into the city is the slow direction in the morning and the easy one at night. A 9 p.m. arrival is often at Harbour Square in 25 minutes; a 5 p.m. arrival can take 50.
What if I have time to fill before an evening flight?
Hotel check-out is usually in the late morning, and many international flights leave in the evening. Rather than sit in the lobby, keep a car for the afternoon. Our hourly chauffeur service runs from a 3-hour minimum with extra time in 30-minute blocks; the bags stay locked in the trunk while you visit the CN Tower, lunch in the Distillery District or make a last meeting on Bay Street, and the final stop is the departures curb. It also suits arrival days when you land at 8 a.m. and the room is not ready until 3 p.m.
Can I combine a Toronto Islands day with a flight?
Yes, and the Westin is the best-placed hotel for it, because the City's ferries to Centre Island, Ward's Island and Hanlan's Point leave from the terminal next door (ferry information). Cars cannot go to the islands, so plan it this way: check out, leave bags with the bell desk or in the car on an hourly booking, spend the morning on the island, and have the chauffeur meet you at the ferry terminal with time to spare. Ferry lines on hot summer weekends can be long on the way back, so build in at least 45 minutes. Our Centre Island day trip post has a family-friendly plan, and the Toronto Islands page covers the basics.

What if my plan uses Billy Bishop as well as Pearson?
Some trips land at one Toronto airport and leave from the other. Billy Bishop is about 3 to 4 km from the Westin, typically 10 to 15 minutes to the mainland pavilion on Eireann Quay, where cars pick up and drop off, as Billy Bishop explains. A Pearson arrival, a night at the Westin and a morning Billy Bishop departure is an easy pattern. For a same-day connection between the two airports, read Pearson to Billy Bishop by car and allow generous time.
What do waterfront guests most often get wrong?
Five things come up again and again:
- Booking the pickup for the time they want to land at the airport, not the time they want to leave the hotel.
- Forgetting to name the terminal; Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 have separate departures ramps.
- Assuming a Sunday morning is quiet in October, the month the marathon usually runs.
- Packing passports in the checked case on a US flight, then repacking at the curb.
- Leaving no margin after an island morning, then meeting a long ferry line.
Each one is fixed with a single sentence in the booking notes.
Can the trip be organised with flights and the hotel together?
Yes. Our travel desk works with BookingWorldwide.net to put the flights, a waterfront hotel and the chauffeured transfers on one itinerary, which helps event planners and assistants keep one file. You can still book only the car at any time on the same account.
How is the fare set, and what about cancellations?
This site prints no prices. The reservation engine shows the full fixed fare before you confirm, covering the chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, 407 ETR tolls on the planned route, airport fees and gratuity, with HST shown separately. It moves with the vehicle class, the hour and date, extra stops, waiting beyond the included allowance and add-ons; our page on how our fares work explains each factor.
Cancelling more than 72 hours before pickup costs nothing; 72 hours or less is 10 %, 48 hours or less is 50 %, and 24 hours or less or a no-show is 100 %, measured from the scheduled pickup.
