A Pearson to Fairmont Royal York car service covers about 27 km, typically 25 to 45 minutes via Highway 427 and the Gardiner Expressway, to 100 Front Street West, across from Union Station. The chauffeur tracks your flight, meets you at Terminal 1 or 3 and sets down at the hotel's main entrance with your bags. See the fixed, all-in fare before you confirm at /book/.
The guide to every hotel near Union Station is on our Financial District hotels car service page. This post follows one trip in detail, Pearson to the Fairmont Royal York and back again, because the hotel's position across from Union Station makes the choice between a car and the train closer than at most Toronto hotels.
How long is the Pearson to Fairmont Royal York car service drive?
The Fairmont Royal York is at 100 Front Street West. From Pearson, chauffeurs usually take Highway 427 south to the Gardiner Expressway and come off at York Street or Bay Street, or use the 401 and the Allen Road or the Don Valley Parkway when the Gardiner is closed or jammed. These are planning figures from dispatch:
| When you travel | Distance | Typical drive | What slows it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early morning, before 6:30 a.m. | about 27 km | 25–30 min | Little |
| Weekday midday | about 27 km | 30–40 min | Construction lanes |
| Weekday evening rush, 4–7 p.m. | about 27 km | 45–70 min | Gardiner eastbound |
| Game or concert night near Union | about 27 km | 40–60 min | Front Street closures and crowds |
| Late night, after 10 p.m. | about 27 km | 25–30 min | Overnight lane closures |
Before each pickup, dispatch checks Ontario 511 for collisions and closures on the 427 and the Gardiner.
Is the UP Express a better choice than a car for this hotel?
Sometimes, and we say so. The UP Express runs between Pearson Terminal 1 and Union Station in about 28 minutes, with stops at Bloor, Mount Dennis and Weston, and Union is directly across Front Street from the hotel. A solo traveller with a carry-on, arriving at Terminal 1 in the daytime, will find the train simple and quick. A car is better when you land at Terminal 3, travel with children or several large cases, arrive late at night, or would rather go from the arrivals curb to the hotel door without crossing the station and Front Street with luggage. Our UP Express vs limo guide sets out the trade-offs.
What happens between landing and the hotel door?
Here is a typical evening arrival on an international flight:
- Landing. The chauffeur is already tracking the flight. Waiting is included from actual landing: 60 minutes on international flights other than the US, 30 minutes on Canadian domestic and US flights.
- Phone on. Read the chauffeur's message with the pickup details.
- Customs and bags. Take your time; the waiting allowance covers a normal wait at the belt.
- Pickup. The chauffeur meets you at the terminal's pre-arranged pickup area on the arrivals curb. Meet and greet inside arrivals with a name board is available at booking.
- The drive. About 25 to 45 minutes to Front Street.
- The hotel. The car pulls up at the main entrance, and the chauffeur hands your bags to the hotel staff.
How does the trip work in reverse, from the hotel to Pearson?
Departures need more care than arrivals, because a missed check-in time cannot be fixed. The chauffeur arrives at the hotel's main entrance a few minutes before the booked time and messages you. For most travellers we suggest leaving the Royal York about three hours before an international flight and about two hours before a domestic or US flight, then adjusting for the time of day. On a weekday afternoon, leave earlier: the 427 and the Gardiner westbound can be slow. US-bound passengers clear US preclearance at Pearson before boarding, which takes time. Our post on how early to arrive at Pearson covers the timing in detail.

Which terminal are you flying from?
Pearson has two passenger terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, and the airline decides which one you use. Check your booking before you travel, because the UP Express only serves Terminal 1. Travellers using Terminal 3 must change to the airport's terminal link train at T1 if they take the UP. A car goes straight to either terminal's departures curb. Tell us the airline and flight number at booking, and the chauffeur drives to the right door. Our Pearson terminal pickup guide explains the layout for arrivals.
Who books a car between Pearson and the Royal York?
From our dispatch notes, the bookings fall into a few groups:
- Convention delegates heading for the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, a short walk west along Front Street, with display cases and a tight first-day schedule.
- Executives with a meeting the same afternoon, who work in the back seat on the way in.
- Families with car seats and luggage, for whom the station and the street crossing are hard work.
- Wedding guests staying for an event at the hotel, who arrive in groups.
- Late-night arrivals, when the trains are less frequent and nobody wants to wait.
- Older travellers who prefer a door-to-door trip without stairs or crowds.
Which vehicle suits each trip?
| Party | Vehicle | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One or two travellers, light bags | Business sedan | Quick and quiet |
| Executive or special occasion | First-class sedan | S-Class or equivalent |
| Family of four with cases | SUV | Six seats, four large bags |
| Delegates with display cases | Executive Sprinter | Seven seats and cargo space |
| Wedding or team group up to 12 | Sprinter luxury van | One run, one arrival time |
Child seats are available at booking. For a passenger who travels seated in a wheelchair, we have a wheelchair-accessible vehicle; book it in advance and tell us about the chair at booking.
How do event nights near Union Station change the plan?
The Royal York is a short walk from Scotiabank Arena and the Rogers Centre, and Front Street gets crowded before and after games and concerts. Police and venue staff sometimes restrict traffic around the arena and Union Station. If you land on a game night, the chauffeur may approach from the north or set down on a nearby street where stopping is permitted, then walk you to the entrance. For departures on those nights, leave a buffer of 15 to 20 minutes. Large conventions at the MTCC also add traffic on Front Street in the morning and late afternoon. Dispatch knows the event calendar and builds it into the pickup time.
Can you keep the car for the rest of the day?
Yes. If you land in the morning with meetings across the city, book our hourly chauffeur service instead of a one-way transfer. The chauffeur meets you at Pearson, takes you to the hotel to drop bags, waits outside your meetings on Bay Street or in Yorkville, and brings you back to the Royal York at the end of the day. The minimum is 3 hours for sedans, SUVs and Sprinters, and extra time is billed in 30-minute blocks. Roadshow schedules change, so the dispatcher can adjust stops through the day.
What if your flight is delayed or arrives early?
We track every flight, so the chauffeur adjusts to the actual landing time without you calling. An early arrival is covered: the chauffeur is positioned by the time you reach the curb, or within a few minutes. A long delay is also covered, because waiting starts from actual landing, not from the scheduled time. If the flight is cancelled or rebooked to the next day, message dispatch with the new flight number and the booking moves with it.
What about flying from Billy Bishop instead?
Some travellers staying at the Royal York fly from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport on the island, which is much closer. Billy Bishop runs a free shuttle between its mainland pavilion on Eireann Quay and a stop on York Street beside the hotel; check the airport's site for current times. For a family with bags or an early departure, a car to the mainland pavilion is a short ride of 3 to 5 km, typically 10 to 20 minutes. Our Billy Bishop airport car service page explains the tunnel, the ferry and the pickup area.

How do wedding and conference groups arrive together?
Groups landing on different flights are the hardest arrivals to plan, and the Royal York hosts many weddings, galas and conference groups. We ask the organiser for every flight number, then group the passengers by landing time. Guests landing within about an hour of each other share a Sprinter luxury van or an executive Sprinter; early or late arrivals travel in a sedan or SUV so nobody waits for hours at the curb. For larger groups, coaches come from vetted partner operators in the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network, and the whole plan is priced and confirmed in writing by a coordinator. Alcohol is not allowed in our vehicles, so any welcome drinks wait for the hotel. Our corporate events page explains how we run arrivals in waves.
How does winter change the Pearson run?
Snow slows the 427 and the Gardiner more than the distance suggests, and the first heavy snowfall of the season is usually the worst day of the year for traffic. Our cars run winter tires from November to April. On a snowy morning, add 20 to 30 minutes to any departure from the hotel, and more if a storm is forecast during the evening rush. De-icing at Pearson can also delay departures, so check your flight status before you leave the room. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks the flight and adjusts to the actual landing time, so a weather delay costs you nothing extra in waiting.
What mistakes make the Pearson run harder?
- Booking the UP Express for a Terminal 3 flight without allowing time to change trains at T1.
- Leaving the hotel at 4 p.m. for a 6:30 p.m. flight. The westbound rush can eat the buffer.
- Forgetting a game night. Front Street can be closed or crowded near the arena.
- Not giving the flight number. Without it, the chauffeur cannot track a delay.
- Counting people but not cases. A sedan takes two people and two bags, no more.
What does the fare include?
We do not publish prices. The reservation engine shows the fixed, all-in fare before you confirm: chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, 407 ETR tolls on the planned route, airport fees on Pearson pickups and gratuity, with HST shown separately. There is no meter in rush-hour traffic. What changes the fare: the vehicle class, the time of day, extra stops, waiting beyond the included allowance and the date. Meet and greet and child seats are available at booking. See how our fares work.
How do you book the room, the flight and the car together?
You book the car directly on TorontoBlackLimousine.com through our reservation engine. If you are also arranging flights or a stay, our travel desk works with BookingWorldwide.net on flights, hotels and packages and can add the transfers to the same itinerary. Cancelling more than 72 hours before pickup costs nothing; 72 hours or less is 10 %, 48 hours or less is 50 %, and 24 hours or less or a no-show is 100 %. Staying near the airport before an early flight instead? Our sibling post on the Alt Hotel Pearson covers that plan, and the downtown Toronto to Pearson route covers every downtown pickup.
