The Alt Hotel Pearson (Alt Hotel Toronto Airport, 6080 Viscount Road, Mississauga) is on the airport lands, and the hotel says guests reach the terminals on the free 24-hour Link train. Where a car earns its place is the evening ride out from downtown Toronto, about 27 km and 25–45 minutes, and the ride home after you land. See the fixed fare first.
An overnight at the Alt Hotel Pearson is a small, smart decision: it turns a 4 a.m. alarm into a 5:15 one. This post is the planning companion to our Pearson airport hotels car service page. That page lists the airport-strip hotels and how pickups work; here we follow one traveller through one night, from leaving a downtown office to boarding a first-wave departure, and show where a chauffeured car helps and where it does not.
Why book the Alt Hotel Pearson the night before an early flight?
The first departures at Pearson leave in the early morning, and the security queues build before then. From downtown Toronto that means leaving home around 4 a.m. for a 6 a.m. flight, with the Gardiner, the 427 and luck all involved. From the Alt Hotel Pearson, the terminal is a short ride on the Link train. The trade is simple: one hotel night against a broken night of sleep and a dawn drive. Travellers who choose it are usually on an early international connection, a family with small children, or someone with a meeting at the destination who cannot afford to arrive frayed. The hotel's own description of its location is on the Alt Hotel Toronto Airport site.
How do you get from the Alt Hotel to Terminal 1 or Terminal 3?
According to the hotel, guests take the free Link train, which runs around the clock between the hotel area, the airport's economy parking and the terminals. Toronto Pearson describes the train and its stops on its transportation and parking pages. For most guests that is the whole answer for the morning: walk to the train, ride to the terminal, check in. We will not pretend a car is better for that hop. Where a car does help in the morning is when someone in the party cannot manage a platform with luggage, when a family has a stroller, two car seats and four suitcases, or when you are booked on a flight from the terminal farther along the line and want to be dropped at its departures door.
How far is the Alt Hotel from downtown Toronto and the rest of the GTA?
The evening ride out is where the planning matters. These are dispatcher planning figures; the reservation engine quotes your exact address.
| From | To the Alt Hotel Pearson | Typical drive | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Union Station / Financial District | about 27 km | 25–45 min | Gardiner and 427; 45+ min at 5 p.m. |
| Yorkville and Midtown | about 25 km | 25–40 min | 401 west is often quicker |
| North York | about 20 km | 20–35 min | 401 to the 427 |
| Mississauga (Square One) | about 15 km | 15–25 min | Short hop on the 403 or Eglinton |
| Vaughan | about 25 km | 20–35 min | 400 to the 407 or the 401 |
| Oakville | about 30 km | 25–40 min | QEW to the 427 |
| Billy Bishop (YTZ) | about 30 km | 30–45 min | Mainland pickup on Eireann Quay |
The figures assume an ordinary evening. A Blue Jays home game or a Gardiner closure can add 20 minutes leaving downtown.
When does a car to the Alt Hotel beat the UP Express?
The UP Express runs between Union Station and Terminal 1 in about 28 minutes, and from Terminal 1 the Link train reaches the hotel. For one person with a carry-on who is already near Union, that chain is hard to argue with. The car wins in different situations: you are leaving from home in Leaside or Etobicoke rather than from Union; you have checked bags, skis or a child; there are three or four of you; you are leaving late at night after a dinner; or you simply want one door-to-door ride instead of two trains and a walk. Our UP Express versus limo guide sets out the trade in full.

What does a good evening-before timeline look like?
Here is a plan our dispatchers often build for a 6:15 a.m. international departure:
- 6:30 p.m. Chauffeur collects you at home or the office, bags loaded.
- 7:15 p.m. Check in at the Alt Hotel Pearson. Ask the desk about the morning train and any early breakfast.
- 7:30 p.m. Online check-in for the flight; set two alarms.
- 3:30 a.m. Wake up; the train is already running.
- 3:55 a.m. Leave the room, ride the Link train to the terminal.
- 4:10 a.m. Bag drop and security, about two hours before departure.
If you would rather have the car in the morning too, book it for about 3:50 a.m. and the chauffeur will be at the hotel entrance.
What time should you leave the Alt for a first-wave flight?
Work back from the airline's advice. Our general rule, for planning only, is to be at the terminal about two hours before a domestic or US departure and about three hours before other international flights; our post on how early to arrive at Pearson explains why. From the Alt Hotel Pearson, the terminal journey is short, so the buffer you need is for the airport itself, not the road. US-bound passengers clear US preclearance at Pearson before boarding, which takes its own time; add a margin on busy mornings. The usual mistake is treating the short hop as a reason to sleep later: the hotel saves you the highway, not the queue.
Which mistakes catch travellers out at an airport hotel?
- Booking the wrong terminal in your head. Air Canada and Star Alliance partners use Terminal 1; many other airlines use Terminal 3. Check your booking, then check again the night before.
- Assuming dinner is easy. Airport-hotel evenings can be quiet; eat before you leave the city, or plan a ride.
- Forgetting the car seat. If a child needs one for the evening ride, add it at booking.
- Leaving check-in to the morning. Do it in the evening so the morning is only bags and security.
- Over-packing for the hop. The Link train is easier with luggage on wheels than with loose bags.
How does the arrival side work if you land late and sleep at the Alt?
Many travellers use the same hotel on the way home: a late-evening landing, a night near the runway, then a relaxed drive home after breakfast. You can reach the hotel on the Link train. The next morning, book the car to the hotel entrance instead of the terminal, at a time that misses the inbound rush; leaving the Alt Hotel Pearson around 9:30 a.m. usually means a smoother run downtown than 8 a.m. If you prefer to go home straight from the plane, the chauffeur tracks the flight and meets you at the terminal's pre-arranged pickup area on the arrivals curb. Waiting from actual landing is included: 30 minutes on Canadian domestic and US flights, 60 minutes on other international arrivals.
Can a family with car seats and big bags use this plan?
Yes, and families get the most out of it. Children sleep better in a hotel bed than on a 4 a.m. car ride, and the morning becomes a short train trip rather than a long drive. The weak point is the evening transfer: a ride-hail may arrive without the right seat, and a family of five rarely fits a sedan with luggage. Book an SUV for six seats and four large bags, and add infant, convertible or booster seats at booking. If the family arrives with grandparents who find the train platform hard, keep the car for the morning too; the chauffeur loads every bag and drops you at the departures door of the right terminal.
What changes in winter?
Winter adds two risks. The first is the evening drive out: freezing rain or a squall can turn the Gardiner and the 427 into a crawl, so leave earlier than you think. The second is de-icing delays the next morning, which move departure times. Our cars run winter tires from November to April, and the dispatcher checks the Environment Canada forecast before evening airport runs. If a storm is due overnight, staying at the airport hotel looks even smarter: you have already done the risky part of the journey the evening before, while the roads were still moving.
Is the Alt Hotel a good base for meetings near Pearson?
For a visitor with a day of meetings in Mississauga, Etobicoke or Brampton, an airport hotel is a practical base, and the Airport Corporate Centre hotels page covers the business parks nearby. The offices are spread out and hard to reach without a car. Book our hourly chauffeur service: one car and one chauffeur from a 3-hour minimum, waiting at each site, with extra time in 30-minute blocks. A day might run hotel, a plant visit near Highway 401, lunch at a client's office, a trade-show stand at the International Centre, and back to the hotel for an evening flight.
Can you go downtown for dinner and still sleep at the airport?
Easily. A guest with a free evening can be collected at the Alt Hotel at 6 p.m., dropped at a restaurant on King Street or in the Distillery District, collected after dinner and returned before 11 p.m. That is an hourly booking: the chauffeur waits nearby instead of you hailing two separate rides. For a Leafs or Raptors game, tell us the event in the notes so the pickup point allows for the crowds leaving the arena. The airport is about 27 km from the core, so the chauffeur plans the return around the late-evening traffic, which is usually light westbound.

Which vehicle suits the run to the Alt Hotel?
| Traveller | Vehicle | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One or two people, two bags | Business sedan | Quiet, quick evening run |
| Low-emission preference | Tesla Model Y | Electric, two passengers, two bags |
| Family up to six | SUV | Six seats, four large bags, car seats |
| Team of seven | Executive Sprinter | Everyone and their cases together |
| Crew or group up to 12 | Sprinter luxury van | One vehicle, one arrival time |
What does the fare include, and how do you see it?
We do not publish prices. Enter the pickup, "Alt Hotel Toronto Airport" as the destination, the date, time and passengers in the reservation engine, and it shows the fixed, all-in fare before you confirm: chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, 407 ETR tolls on the planned route, airport fees where they apply and gratuity, with HST shown separately. What changes it: the vehicle class, the distance and time of day, extra stops and waiting beyond the included 15 minutes at a hotel or home pickup. Our how our fares work page explains each element.
How do the flight, the room and the car fit together?
If you have not booked the hotel or the flight yet, our travel desk works with BookingWorldwide.net to put flights, hotels and packages on one itinerary, and the chauffeur can be added to it. That is handy for an early connection after a late arrival from another city. The car itself is always booked directly on TorontoBlackLimousine.com: one reservation engine, one dispatch desk, no marketplace commission. Staying downtown instead? Our sibling post on the Fairmont Royal York to Pearson by car shows how the same early flight looks from the core.
What if the flight is cancelled or moved?
Change the booking or message dispatch and the pickup moves with the new time. Cancelling more than 72 hours before pickup costs nothing; 72 hours or less is 10 %, 48 hours or less is 50 %, and 24 hours or less or a no-show is 100 %, measured from the scheduled pickup. If a cancellation strands you for a second night, the same hotel and the same plan still work: a car home, or a car back to the terminal the next morning.
