The UP Express to Pearson runs from Union Station through Bloor, Mount Dennis and Weston to Pearson's Terminal 1, a trip its operator describes as 28 minutes. It suits a solo traveller with light bags flying from Terminal 1. For Terminal 3, families, heavy luggage or door-to-door service, a TorontoBlackLimousine.com black car covers the 27 km in 25–45 minutes; book it here.
UP Express to Pearson: what is it and where does it stop?
The UP Express is the dedicated airport rail link operated by Metrolinx between downtown Toronto and Toronto Pearson. Its official site lists five stations: Union Station downtown, Bloor, Mount Dennis, Weston and Pearson at the airport. The Pearson station is attached to Terminal 1. The train does not go to Terminal 3; passengers for Terminal 3 connect inside the airport using Pearson's inter-terminal train. The service is aimed at air travellers and commuters who want to avoid the highways, and for a lot of trips it does exactly that well. We are a car company, but we would rather you choose the right mode than book a car you did not need. When you do need one, you can book a Pearson black car direct.
How long does the UP Express take compared with a car?
The operator's own headline is Pearson Airport to downtown Toronto in 28 minutes. A black car from Union Station to Pearson covers about 27 km and typically takes 25–45 minutes via the Gardiner and Highway 427. Off-peak, the two are close. At weekday rush hours or in a snowstorm the train has the edge, because it runs on its own track. Late at night, the car usually wins because it leaves when you are ready and drops you at your door. The real comparison is door to door: the train only helps if your trip starts or ends near one of its stations, and if you add a taxi or a walk at each end, the total time changes.
| Trip | UP Express | Black car by road |
|---|---|---|
| Union Station to Pearson T1 | about 28 min (operator figure) | about 27 km, 25–45 min |
| Union Station to Pearson T3 | train to T1, then inter-terminal train | about 27 km, 25–45 min, direct to T3 |
| Yorkville hotel to Pearson | taxi or subway to a UP station first | about 27 km, 25–45 min |
| Bloor station area to Pearson | from Bloor station | about 20 km, 20–35 min |
| Weston to Pearson | from Weston station | about 10 km, 15–20 min |
| Mississauga or Oakville to Pearson | not served | about 25–30 km, 20–40 min |
UP Express price: where to find current fares
People search for "UP Express price" constantly, and the right answer is the operator's own fare page. We do not print UP Express fares, GO fares or our own fares on this site, because train fares change, discounts depend on payment method, and a number copied onto a third-party page goes out of date. Check upexpress.com for current fares and payment options. For our cars, the reservation engine shows a fixed, all-in fare before you confirm, including the chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, any 407 ETR tolls, airport fees and gratuity, with HST shown separately. The fair comparison is per party, not per person: one train fare against one car fare for a single traveller looks very different from four train fares against one car fare for a family.
When is the UP Express the better choice?
Take the train when you are travelling alone or as a pair, you have a carry-on or one easy suitcase, you are flying from Terminal 1, and you are starting close to Union, Bloor, Mount Dennis or Weston. It also makes sense in the middle of a weekday rush hour, when the Gardiner and 427 are slow and the rail corridor is not. If you are staying at a Financial District hotel connected to Union by the PATH, the walk to the train can be short and dry. We say this openly because the brief we give our own dispatchers is to send cars where they make the trip better, and our UP Express vs limo guide sets out the same advice.
When does a black car beat the UP Express?
A car wins for door-to-door trips that start in Forest Hill, Rosedale, the Beaches, North York or the suburbs; for Terminal 3 flights; for families with children and car seats; for groups of three or more who would otherwise buy several fares; for skis, golf clubs, instruments and heavy luggage; for early departures and late-night arrivals when you would rather not wait on a platform; and for travellers with limited mobility who would struggle with transfers inside the airport. It also wins when the airport run is one part of a longer day. With our hourly chauffeur service the same car can take you to two meetings, collect a colleague from the train and still have you at Terminal 3 on time.
Getting from Terminal 3 to the UP Express
The UP Express station is at Terminal 1, so arriving passengers at Terminal 3 first ride Pearson's inter-terminal train to Terminal 1 and then walk to the UP Express platform. That is manageable with a backpack, less so with a pushchair, two children and three suitcases after an overnight flight. A black car collects you at Terminal 3 directly. Pearson's own ground transportation pages describe the options at each terminal, and our Pearson terminal pickup guide explains how our pickups work at each one.

How does a pre-booked car pickup at Pearson work?
We track your flight and time the chauffeur to the actual landing. Included waiting is 30 minutes for Canadian domestic and US flights and 60 minutes for other international arrivals, counted from landing, then 15-minute blocks. The fare includes a curbside pickup at the terminal's designated pre-arranged pickup area on the arrivals level; you tell the pickup-area staff you are waiting for a pre-arranged ride, as Pearson explains on its pre-arranged services page. If you want the chauffeur inside the arrivals hall holding a name board, add meet and greet at booking. For more detail, see our Toronto Pearson airport page.
Pickups at Bloor, Mount Dennis and Weston stations
Not everyone uses the UP Express all the way to Union. Some riders get off at Bloor to connect with the subway at Dundas West, and some live near Weston or Mount Dennis. We pick up at or near these stations when a train rider needs the last leg by car: a family returning from a long-haul flight, a late arrival when onward transit has thinned out, or someone with more luggage than they would like to carry up the street. Tell us which station and which train, and the chauffeur meets you at a legal stopping place nearby and texts the exact spot. Planning figures: Bloor station area is about 6 km from Union Station, Weston about 15 km.
Can I combine the UP Express with a car?
Yes, and plenty of our clients do. A common pattern is the train in one direction and a car in the other: UP Express to the airport on a weekday morning when traffic is at its worst, then a pre-booked car home after a late return flight, when the train would leave you at Union at midnight with bags. Another is a car from a suburban home to Union Station and the UP Express from there. We are happy to book whichever leg the car genuinely improves. If you are unsure, our Union Station car service page covers the downtown end.
Which vehicle should I book instead of the UP Express?
For one or two travellers with standard luggage, a business sedan or an electric Tesla Model Y is plenty. For a family of four or five, or anyone with skis or golf bags, book an executive SUV or a Yukon XL or Suburban class SUV, which carry six passengers and four large bags. Groups of up to seven travel in an Executive Sprinter lounge van, and up to twelve in a Sprinter luxury van. Everyone rides together, leaves together and arrives together, which is the point for groups heading to the same flight.
How early should I leave downtown for a Pearson flight?
As a planning rule, leave downtown about two and a half hours before a domestic departure at busy times and add time for US and international flights. The UP Express schedule and the train's reliability are on its own site; the car's drive time is 25–45 minutes in normal traffic but longer at rush hour or in bad weather. We check live conditions on Ontario 511 the day before and the morning of your trip, and dispatch will message you if we recommend an earlier pickup. Our blog post on the UP Express schedule for early flights looks at the first-flight problem in detail.
Airport runs as part of an hourly day
Our lead product is the private chauffeur by the hour: one car and one chauffeur for a three-hour minimum or a whole day. For visiting executives this often replaces both the UP Express and several taxis. The chauffeur meets you at Pearson, drives you to a Bay Street meeting, waits, takes you on to a lunch in Yorkville and a site visit in Vaughan, and returns you to Terminal 3 for the evening flight, with your bags in the trunk all day. For a roadshow or a busy visit, see private chauffeur service and our corporate car service. Extra time is billed in 30-minute blocks, and the reservation engine shows the full figure before you confirm.
What is included in the fixed fare?
The fare you see in the reservation engine covers the chauffeur, the vehicle, fuel, 407 ETR tolls if the route uses them, airport fees and gratuity. HST is shown separately. It does not surge in bad weather or at busy times, and there is no meter. What changes the fare is the vehicle class, the distance and time, extra stops, waiting beyond the included time, the date and season, and add-ons such as meet and greet or child seats, which are available at booking. See how our fares work for more.
Luggage, children and accessibility
Trains are good with light luggage and less good with a lot of it. A car takes the heavy lifting away: the chauffeur loads and unloads, and the bags never leave your sight between the curb and your door. Infant, convertible and booster seats are available at booking. We have a wheelchair-accessible vehicle for anyone who must stay seated in a wheelchair or scooter, available when booked in advance; for passengers who can transfer to a seat, the chauffeur stows a folding wheelchair or walker. Families arriving after long flights often find the car worth it for this reason alone.
Planning flights and hotels as well as the ride
If your trip includes flights, a hotel near the airport or a stay downtown, our travel desk can help arrange them and line up your transfers so the car is waiting at the right terminal on the right day. It is a practical way to keep the whole itinerary in one place, especially for families and small corporate groups.
Cancellation policy
Cancel more than 72 hours before pickup at no charge. At 72 hours or less the charge is 10 % of the fare; at 48 hours or less, 50 %; at 24 hours or less, or a no-show, 100 %, measured from the scheduled pickup. Flight delays are handled by tracking, not cancellation: if your flight is late, the chauffeur is late too.
