A Toronto to Windsor limo or car service is a private chauffeured car from any Toronto address or Pearson to any Windsor address, about 365 km and 3 hours 45 minutes to 4 hours 20 minutes on Highway 401 west. TorontoBlackLimousine.com drives it both ways, can continue across the border to Detroit, and shows the fixed fare in the reservation engine before you confirm.
Toronto to Windsor car service: the whole length of the 401
Windsor is where Highway 401 ends, facing Detroit across the Detroit River. Getting there from Toronto means driving almost the entire length of Canada's busiest highway, past Mississauga, Cambridge, Woodstock, London and Chatham. It is a trip people make for work in the automotive and cross-border logistics sectors, for family visits in Windsor-Essex, for flights from Detroit, and for Detroit Lions games and concerts across the river.
A Toronto to Windsor car service turns four hours of steering into four hours of rest or work. The chauffeur picks you up at your door or at Pearson, handles the long flat run through south-western Ontario and delivers you to the Windsor address you gave, whether that is an office downtown near Riverside Drive, a hotel, a plant in the east end or a family home in Tecumseh, LaSalle or Amherstburg. It is booked like any city-to-city car service, through one dispatch desk.
How far is Windsor from downtown Toronto and from Pearson?
Planning figures only. The reservation engine prices your exact addresses, date, time and vehicle.
| Trip | Distance | Typical drive time | Main road |
|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown Toronto (Union Station) to downtown Windsor | about 365 km | 3 h 45 min–4 h 20 min | Gardiner, 427, 401 west |
| Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to Windsor | about 345 km | 3 h 35 min–4 h 10 min | 401 west |
| Downtown Toronto to Windsor airport (YQG) | about 365 km | 3 h 45 min–4 h 20 min | 401 west |
| Downtown Toronto to Detroit airport (DTW) | about 385 km | 4 h–4 h 45 min, plus the border | 401, Detroit crossing, I-94 |
| London to Windsor | about 190 km | about 2 h | 401 west |
| Windsor to downtown Detroit | a few km | 10–30 min, plus the border | bridge or tunnel |
The slow parts are at the Toronto end, Mississauga to Milton at rush hour, and at the border if you continue to Detroit. Between London and Windsor the 401 is long, straight and usually free-flowing.
Which route does the chauffeur take to Windsor?
There is really one road: the 401 west from the 427 interchange near Pearson to its end in Windsor. The chauffeur may use the tolled 407 ETR to get past Mississauga traffic, with the toll included in the fare if it is used, and may switch to Highway 403 through Hamilton and Brantford if the 401 is closed between Milton and Woodstock. Ontario 511 is checked before departure.
At the Windsor end, the 401 connects to the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway, which leads toward the new Gordie Howe International Bridge, while Huron Church Road leads to the Ambassador Bridge and downtown streets lead to the tunnel. For drop-offs inside Windsor, the chauffeur leaves the highway at the exit closest to your address, such as Dougall Avenue, Howard Avenue or Walker Road.
Where do you stop on a four-hour drive to Windsor?
A four-hour trip deserves at least one break. The ONroute centres on this stretch are Cambridge North, Ingersoll, West Lorne and Tilbury North westbound, and Tilbury South, Dutton, Woodstock and Cambridge South eastbound. Tilbury and West Lorne are good for a last stretch before Windsor; Woodstock is roughly halfway coming back.
If you prefer a sit-down lunch, London is almost exactly halfway and has plenty of options a few minutes off the highway. Tell dispatch at booking whether you want a quick break or a meal, and the plan includes it.

Windsor to Toronto: booking the trip east
The same service runs from Windsor to Toronto. The chauffeur picks you up anywhere in Windsor or Essex County, or at Windsor International Airport after a flight, and drives to any Toronto address or to Pearson. The car is dispatched from Toronto in time for your pickup.
For a Pearson departure, allow the full drive, plus an hour for Toronto-area traffic, plus the airline's check-in advice. For an international flight, most Windsor travellers leave six and a half to seven hours before departure. The chauffeur tracks the flight on a return pickup at Pearson; included waiting starts from actual landing, 30 minutes for Canadian domestic and US flights and 60 minutes for other international arrivals.
Is it faster to fly, take VIA Rail or be driven to Windsor?
A comparison without prices, looking at the whole trip door to door.
| Option | Door-to-door time | Luggage | Groups | Working en route |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flight YYZ or YTZ to YQG | 3–4 h with airport time and transfers | airline limits | several tickets | only briefly |
| VIA Rail, Union to Windsor station | 4.5–5.5 h with transfers | you carry it | tickets for everyone plus taxis | good on board |
| Intercity bus | 5–6 h with stops | limited | crowded | difficult |
| Driving yourself | about 4 h, one person drives | good | fine | not for the driver |
| Private chauffeur | 3 h 45 min–4 h 20 min, no transfers | what the vehicle holds | one vehicle | the whole way |
Flying is quickest for a single traveller near an airport, and VIA Rail serves Windsor from Union Station with a change of pace for those who like the train. For families, teams, heavy equipment or sample cases, or anyone continuing to Detroit, the private car is simpler because it goes door to door, across the border if needed, with no transfers.
Continuing to Detroit: the three crossings and your documents
Many Toronto to Windsor trips do not stop at Windsor. The chauffeur can continue into Detroit by the Ambassador Bridge, the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel or the Gordie Howe International Bridge, which opened to traffic in July 2026. The choice depends on your destination and on the wait times at each crossing, which the chauffeur checks before reaching Windsor.
Every passenger needs a valid passport, or another document accepted for your citizenship such as a NEXUS card or an enhanced driver's licence, to enter the United States and to return to Canada. Check US CBP and the CBSA before you travel. Our crossing the border by limo guide explains what happens at the booth, and the Detroit to Toronto page covers the trip from the US side.
Detroit Lions games from Toronto via Windsor
Toronto fans travel to Detroit for Lions games at Ford Field, and it is one of the trips we are asked for most in the fall. The car picks up in Toronto in the morning, drives to Windsor, crosses into Detroit, drops the group near the stadium and waits for the final whistle. A Sprinter turns the four-hour ride into part of the day out.
A game-day return to Toronto means a long day for one person: about eight hours of driving plus the game. Dispatch plans it with two chauffeurs sharing the wheel, or with an overnight in Windsor or Detroit and a relaxed drive home the next morning. See Detroit Lions game trips and our post on Lions tickets and the trip from Toronto.

Flying from Detroit instead of Pearson
For some US destinations, flying from Detroit Metropolitan Airport is worth considering, and Windsor residents often do. From downtown Toronto, DTW is about 385 km plus the border, so it only makes sense for Toronto travellers in particular circumstances, but a car from Windsor to DTW is a short, easy trip. The chauffeur drops you at the correct terminal and, coming back, tracks your flight.
Business trips to Windsor-Essex by the hour
Windsor is an automotive and manufacturing city, with plants, suppliers and logistics firms spread across Windsor, Tecumseh and Essex County, and many visits from Toronto involve several stops. The hourly chauffeur service keeps the same car and chauffeur with you all day, waiting at each site. Hourly bookings start at three hours for sedans, SUVs, vans and Sprinters, with extra time in 30-minute blocks.
For a round trip from Toronto with a full day of site visits in between, the total day often reaches twelve hours or more. In that case, dispatch assigns two chauffeurs or suggests staying overnight in Windsor, so nobody is driving tired on the 401 at night.
Families, weddings and events in Windsor-Essex
Families with roots in Windsor and Essex County travel between the two cities for weddings, holidays and milestone birthdays. A Sprinter carries several generations together, with luggage, and an SUV suits a smaller family with children; child seats are available at booking. Larger events that need stretch limousines or coaches are handled by vetted partner operators in the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network and priced in writing by a coordinator. See wedding limo service.
The region's wineries along the Lake Erie shore and Point Pelee National Park make good add-ons to a family trip. The official Visit Windsor Essex site lists what is on, and the City of Windsor site covers local information.
Which vehicle for the Windsor drive?
On a four-hour trip, comfort matters more than on a city ride. One or two travellers are comfortable in the business sedan or the first-class sedan. Families take the SUV or the premier luxury SUV. For Lions trips and business teams, the executive Sprinter seats seven in a lounge layout, the first-class executive Sprinter seats six in captain's chairs, and the Sprinter luxury van takes up to twelve.
Winter on the 401 to Windsor
The 401 through south-western Ontario crosses flat, open farmland where wind and snow squalls off Lake Huron and Lake Erie can create sudden whiteouts, especially around London and Chatham. Our cars run on winter tires from November to April, the chauffeur checks forecasts and road reports, and dispatch calls you if the departure should move. If a closure means a detour, the fixed fare stays as confirmed.
One way, round trip or keeping the car
A one-way booking drops you in Windsor and the car returns to Toronto; the one-way fare already accounts for that. If you are coming back within a day or two, you can book the return separately or keep the car and chauffeur with you for the whole visit, with the chauffeur's overnight arranged by dispatch and included in the confirmed figure. The vehicle class, exact addresses, date, time, stops, waiting and border crossings all affect the fare, which the reservation engine or a coordinator shows before you confirm. See how our fares work.
Cancellations, flights and hotels
Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup; 10 % at 72 hours or less, 50 % at 48 hours or less, and 100 % at 24 hours or less or for a no-show, measured from the scheduled pickup.
If the drive is part of a longer trip, perhaps a flight out of Detroit or a hotel stay in Windsor before a game, our travel desk can book the flights and rooms alongside the car. For a stop halfway, see Toronto to London, Ontario.
