Where we drive

From downtown Toronto, every day: typical distance and drive time, fixed fare before you book. All routes →

Detroit Lions tickets for Toronto fans come through the Lions' official channels as mobile tickets held on your phone. Ford Field is in downtown Detroit, about 385 km and 4 to 4.75 hours from downtown Toronto via Highway 401 and a Windsor crossing. Because of the distance, many groups make it an overnight weekend, with a chauffeur who drives, waits and brings everyone home.

Our Detroit Lions game trip from Toronto page covers the trip itself: route, vehicles, drop-off and how the fare works. This post is the fan's planner: getting and holding the tickets, deciding between a day trip and a weekend, the special case of the US Thanksgiving game, and a realistic timeline that starts with kickoff and works back to your door in Toronto.

How do Toronto fans buy Detroit Lions tickets?

Start with the Detroit Lions' official site, which links to single-game tickets, season memberships, premium seating and the team's official resale options. The NFL's site carries the full schedule and kickoff times. Buying from Ontario is no different from buying in Michigan: an account, an email address and a payment card. Prices are in US dollars, so check whether your card adds a foreign-transaction charge. Be cautious with unofficial sellers, and never rely on a screenshot of a ticket; a ticket that has been transferred elsewhere may not scan at the gate.

How should we handle mobile tickets across the border?

Treat your phone as the ticket. Before leaving Toronto, have the buyer transfer each ticket to the person who will use it, have everyone accept, and add each ticket to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet if the team's app offers it. Check that the tickets open without data. Your phone joins a US network after the crossing, and if you are not on a US roaming plan, data at the gate may be slow or costly. Charge phones in the car on the way down; the chauffeur can help with that, but cannot help a friend whose ticket is on someone else's dead phone.

Where is Ford Field, and why is it easy from Toronto?

Ford Field is in downtown Detroit, next to Comerica Park and a short walk from the Woodward Avenue corridor, restaurants and the downtown hotels. That location is the big advantage for Toronto fans: the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel comes out in downtown Detroit, only a few minutes away, and the Ambassador Bridge and the new Gordie Howe International Bridge, open to traffic since July 2026, are close by too. The Ford Field site publishes the current entry rules, bag policy and gate information; check it before every game.

Day trip or weekend: which makes more sense?

For a 1:00 p.m. Sunday game, a day trip is possible but long: a pickup around 6:30 a.m., the game, and a return to Toronto close to midnight. That is about 17 hours for the group and the chauffeur, which is why we plan it with care. For night games and the Thanksgiving game, and for any group that wants to enjoy Detroit rather than just see the game, an overnight is the better plan. You arrive the day before, have dinner downtown, walk to the stadium, and drive home the next morning when the 401 is calm. Dispatch recommends the plan that fits your game and confirms it in writing. A middle option suits some groups: drive down on game morning, stay one night after the game, and come home the next day. It avoids the 2 a.m. crossing without costing a full extra day off work, and on a Monday morning the 401 eastbound past London is usually calm. Overnight trips with the chauffeur staying over are arranged at booking, so tell us early which version of the weekend you want.

What does a weekend timeline look like?

A Saturday-to-Monday trip for four friends from North York, for a Sunday 1:00 p.m. game:

  1. Saturday 11:00 a.m. Pickup; lunch stop near London.
  2. Saturday 3:30 p.m. Detroit-Windsor Tunnel into downtown Detroit.
  3. Saturday evening. Hotel check-in and dinner downtown; the chauffeur is off duty.
  4. Sunday 11:00 a.m. Short walk to Ford Field; gates and food.
  5. Sunday 1:00 p.m. Kickoff; evening free in Detroit.
  6. Monday 9:00 a.m. Departure after breakfast.
  7. Monday about 2:00 p.m. Home in North York.

Our travel desk can book the hotel, and dispatch confirms how the chauffeur's overnight is handled.

What about the Thanksgiving Day game?

The Lions traditionally host a game on US Thanksgiving, a Thursday in late November. For Toronto fans, two things matter. First, it is a normal working day in Canada, so plan time off. Second, it is one of the busiest travel weekends of the American year, and the Detroit River crossings feel it. Leave early, accept a longer day, or better, go on Wednesday and stay the night. It is a memorable game to attend, and it rewards fans who plan around the traffic rather than into it. Book the car as early as you book the tickets: holiday weekends fill the calendar quickly, for vehicles as well as hotel rooms.

Why book an hourly chauffeur for game day?

Because a game has an uncertain finish and a trip this long has many moving parts. An hourly chauffeur from Toronto stays with your group, keeps jackets and bags in the car, and leaves when you do, whether the game ends on time or goes to overtime. On a weekend, the chauffeur can drive you to dinner on Saturday, to the stadium on Sunday and home on Monday. Hourly bookings for sedans, SUVs and Sprinters have a 3-hour minimum, with extra time in 30-minute blocks, and the fixed fare shows before you confirm.

Which vehicle should we choose for four hours each way?

Comfort matters on a long drive. Two fans travel well in a business or first-class sedan. A business SUV seats six with four large bags, which is right for a group of friends staying overnight. For seven to twelve people, a Sprinter keeps everyone together with room for weekend bags; see our Sprinter group transportation page. Child seats are available at booking for younger fans.

Which crossing gets us to Ford Field fastest?

On most days the tunnel is the most direct line into downtown Detroit, if it suits your vehicle; dispatch checks before planning on it. The Ambassador Bridge and the Gordie Howe Bridge are close alternatives and often better for larger vehicles or when the tunnel queue is long. The chauffeur reads live waits as the car approaches Windsor. Our Toronto to Detroit drive planner explains the three crossings in more detail.

What do we need at the border?

Every passenger needs a passport, passport card, NEXUS card or enhanced driver's licence if eligible, and children need their own documents. Non-Canadian friends should check their entry requirements with US Customs and Border Protection and the Canada Border Services Agency before buying tickets. At the booth, the answer to "where are you going?" is simple: "the Lions game, staying downtown, back on Monday". Our documents to cross the US-Canada border post has the full checklist.

What else is there to do in Detroit on a game weekend?

Plenty. The riverfront, Campus Martius and the restaurants of downtown and Corktown are all close to the stadium district. The Henry Ford museum complex in Dearborn is an easy run with the chauffeur. Visit Detroit lists events for your dates. If baseball overlaps with your trip, Comerica Park is right next door. And if you are crossing back with purchases, our duty free allowance by car post explains what you can bring home after 24 and 48 hours.

Can we drink in the car on the way to the game?

No. Alcohol is not allowed in any of our vehicles, on the way down, on the way home or anywhere in between. That is a firm rule across the whole fleet, and it also keeps the border inspection simple: open containers in a vehicle cause problems on both sides of the river. Enjoy the pre-game downtown, at a restaurant or a licensed venue near Ford Field, and let the car be the quiet, comfortable part of the day. On the drive home, the chauffeur can stop for food and coffee, and most fans are asleep before London anyway.

What is included in the fare for a trip this long?

The reservation engine shows a fixed, all-in fare before you confirm: chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, the 407 ETR if used, and the bridge or tunnel tolls on the planned route, with HST shown separately. What changes it is the vehicle class, the hours, extra stops, the dates and whether the chauffeur stays over. For a same-day trip with a very long schedule, a second chauffeur can be arranged at booking so the person driving home after the game is always rested. NEXUS-holding chauffeurs are available on request if your whole group holds NEXUS cards.

What mistakes do Toronto fans make on a Lions trip?

  • Planning a day trip for a night game, then crossing home at 2 a.m.
  • Forgetting that US Thanksgiving is a work day in Canada.
  • Keeping all the tickets on one phone.
  • Bringing a large bag to the stadium; check the bag rules first.
  • Assuming the tunnel is always the fastest crossing.
  • Booking a fixed-time one-way pickup after the game.

Do you also run Bills game trips?

Yes, and they are shorter: Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park is about 175 km from downtown Toronto. Our Buffalo Bills tickets from Toronto post plans that game day, and the Detroit to Toronto car service page covers the Detroit route in both directions.

How do I book a car to a Lions game?

Get and transfer the tickets first. Then open the reservation engine at /book/, choose hourly or a multi-day trip, enter the Toronto pickup and your Detroit hotel or Ford Field, choose the dates and vehicle, and see the fixed fare before you confirm. Note the kickoff time, passengers, NEXUS cards and overnight plans. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup.

FAQ

Questions, answered

How do I get Detroit Lions tickets from Canada?

Use the team's official channels, linked from detroitlions.com, for single-game tickets, memberships and official resale. You need an account, an email address and a payment card; prices are in US dollars, so check for foreign-transaction charges. Avoid unofficial sellers and screenshots, which may not scan at Ford Field.

How far is Ford Field from Toronto?

About 385 km from downtown Toronto, typically 4 to 4.75 hours before the border wait, via Highway 401 to Windsor and one of the Detroit River crossings. From Pearson it is about 365 km. Allow extra time on game days, holiday weekends and in winter weather.

Can we do a Lions game from Toronto in one day?

Yes for an afternoon game, but it is a long day of about 16 to 17 hours with an early start and a late return. For night games, the Thanksgiving game or a relaxed trip, an overnight in Detroit or Windsor is the better plan, with the drive home the next morning.

Which border crossing is closest to Ford Field?

The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel comes out in downtown Detroit, a few minutes from Ford Field, so it is often the most direct, where it suits the vehicle. The Ambassador Bridge and the Gordie Howe International Bridge are close alternatives. The chauffeur checks live waits before choosing.

Do the Lions play every year on US Thanksgiving?

The Lions traditionally host a game on US Thanksgiving, a Thursday in late November. It is a working day in Canada and a very busy travel period in the US, so Toronto fans should plan time off, leave early and consider travelling the day before and staying overnight.

Can a chauffeur stay in Detroit for the weekend?

Yes. On a weekend trip the chauffeur can drive you down, take you to dinner and the stadium, and drive you home on the last day. Dispatch confirms how the chauffeur's overnight is handled when you book, and our travel desk can book your hotel on the same account.

What vehicle is best for a Lions trip from Toronto?

Two fans travel comfortably in a sedan. A business SUV seats six with four large bags, which suits most weekend groups. For seven to twelve people, a Sprinter keeps everyone together with room for luggage. Child seats are available at booking.

What separates a private chauffeur from a ride with a stranger

The standard our chauffeurs work to is on the chauffeurs page; what each transfer costs, and why, is on the rates page; when an hourly booking beats a one-way trip is in this guide.

01

A private chauffeur, by the hour

Keep one black car and one chauffeur for three hours or the whole day: a Bay Street meeting, lunch in Yorkville, a site visit in Vaughan, a Niagara tasting, the flight home from Pearson. The car waits outside; you never queue for another ride.

02

A fixed fare, booked direct

The engine prices the exact address, date and vehicle before you confirm - 407 ETR tolls when used, airport fees and gratuity included. No surge after a Leafs game, no meter on the Gardiner, and no aggregator taking a cut.

03

Flights and trains, tracked

Pearson Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 and Billy Bishop flights are tracked from take-off; VIA, GO and UP Express arrivals at Union Station from departure. Thirty minutes free on Canadian and US flights, sixty on other international arrivals.

04

Chauffeurs who read Toronto traffic

Licensed for passengers for hire, screened and suited; routes chosen on live traffic across the Gardiner, the DVP, the 401 collectors and express lanes, the 427, the 407 ETR and the QEW - and around the lane closures and game-day crowds downtown.

05

Airports, Union Station, jets and the border

Pearson, Billy Bishop, Hamilton, Waterloo, Buffalo, Niagara Falls NY and Detroit; Union Station and the GO and VIA stations; private aviation; and cross-border trips over the Peace Bridge, Rainbow Bridge, Lewiston-Queenston or into Detroit.

06

A desk that answers

Dispatch staffed around the clock by phone, chat and WhatsApp; a coordinator for weddings, proms, party buses, delegations, trade shows and corporate accounts.
