At Pearson, licensed airport taxis charge flat rates to Toronto destinations from stands outside arrivals, and airport limos are premium black cars that Pearson says cost about 10 % more than a taxi. A pre-booked black car from TorontoBlackLimousine.com adds flight tracking, included waiting, a choice of vehicle and a fixed fare you see before you book your Pearson car.
Pearson airport taxi vs limo: what is the real difference?
At Toronto Pearson there are three kinds of car waiting for you, and they work in different ways. The airport taxi and the airport limo are licensed to pick up at the airport's own stands outside arrivals: you walk out, join the line and take the next vehicle. The pre-booked black car or chauffeur is a ride you arranged before you flew, with a named company, a fixed fare and a pickup at the airport's designated area for pre-arranged services. The taxi and the airport limo are on-demand; the pre-booked car is reserved. The stand wins on spontaneity: no booking, no app, just a car. A pre-booked car wins when you want certainty about the vehicle, the fare and the person waiting for you, especially with family, luggage or a late international arrival. The rest of this guide sets them side by side, honestly, including the cases where a taxi is the better call.
How do Pearson's airport taxis work?
According to Toronto Pearson's taxis and limos page, licensed airport taxis charge flat rates to Toronto destinations, there is no surge pricing, and they accept major credit cards. The airport publishes the official taxi and limo tariff listing and a fare-estimate tool on that page, so you can check the flat rate for your destination area before you land; we do not reprint those figures here. To spot a licensed airport vehicle, look for the GTAA number plate on the bumper and the decal on the window. Licensed taxis and limos do not solicit or pick up inside the terminals or the parking garages, so anyone offering you a ride indoors is not part of the airport's system. On the arrivals level, the taxi stand at Terminal 1 is at Door D, and at Terminal 3 taxis and limos share Door E.

What is an airport limo at Pearson, and how is it different from a taxi?
On Pearson's own wording, airport limos are premium black cars, and they charge approximately 10 % more than a taxi. They follow the same flat-rate approach to Toronto destinations, from their own stand: Terminal 1 limos at Door C, and Terminal 3 at Door E, shared with taxis. It is a nicer car on the same walk-up model. You still take the next car in the line, so you cannot choose a specific vehicle, you cannot book a child seat in advance, and nobody is tracking your flight for you. If your idea of a "limo" is a stretch limousine for a celebration, that is a different product altogether: stretch limousines are available through our partner fleet and are booked ahead, not hailed at the curb.
What does a pre-booked black car from TorontoBlackLimousine.com add?
A pre-booked car is arranged before you fly, so the details are settled before you are standing on the curb with your bags. What you get with us:
- A fixed, all-in fare shown before you confirm at /book/: chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, tolls on the planned route, airport fees and gratuity, with HST shown separately. No meter, no surge.
- Flight tracking, so delays and early landings move the pickup without a phone call.
- Included waiting from actual landing: 30 minutes on Canadian domestic and US flights, 60 minutes on other international arrivals, then 15-minute blocks.
- Pickup at the pre-arranged area, Door A, at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, per Pearson's pre-arranged services page. Meet and greet inside arrivals with a name board is an optional add-on at booking.
- A choice of vehicle: sedan, Tesla Model Y, SUV, luxury SUV or Sprinter, with child seats available at booking.
- Rides to the airport as well as from it, plus hourly bookings.

The fares themselves are not in this table on purpose: the airport publishes its tariff, and our reservation engine shows our exact fare for your address and vehicle.
Where does each option pick you up at Pearson?
Three different curbs, which is the main source of confusion at arrivals. Per the official Pearson pages read on 4 October 2026:
| Ride type | Terminal 1 (arrivals level) | Terminal 3 (arrivals level) |
|---|---|---|
| Airport taxi stand | Door D | Door E |
| Airport limo stand | Door C | Door E |
| Pre-arranged taxis and limos (incl. us) | Door A | Door A |
At Door A there is a pre-arranged services desk inside the terminal; the airport's advice is to go to the designated area and tell the dispatcher you are waiting for your pre-arranged ride. Rideshare (Uber, Lyft and Hopp are available at Pearson) has its own signed pickup zones. If you are not sure which terminal your airline uses, our Pearson airline terminal finder lists every carrier, and the Pearson terminal pickup guide walks you from the aircraft to the curb.

How do the fares compare, without quoting prices?
We never print prices on this site, and Pearson's own comparison is relative: airport limos charge about 10 % more than taxis, both on flat rates to Toronto destinations, per the airport's published tariff. Our fare is a fixed, all-in figure for your exact pickup, drop-off, date, time and vehicle class, shown before you confirm. What moves it: the vehicle class (a Sprinter is not a sedan), the distance (downtown is about 27 km from Pearson, Mississauga City Centre about 12 km), the time and date, any extra stops, and meet and greet or other add-ons. To compare fairly, look at the whole trip: one SUV for a family of five versus two taxis; included waiting versus a car that was never booked; tolls and gratuity included versus added. Our guide to how Toronto limo fares work and the how our fares work page explain each element.
When is a taxi from the stand the sensible choice?
Honestly, quite often. If you are one or two people with carry-on bags, landing at a civilised hour, going to one address in the city, and you have not booked anything, the taxi stand is a good, regulated option. You will not wait for a car to be dispatched, the fare is flat to your destination area, and the line usually moves. A taxi makes less sense when you need a child seat fitted before you get in, when a group would need two or three cabs, when you are landing late from overseas and want someone tracking the flight, when bags exceed a sedan's trunk, or when you need to stop on the way. For a pure solo run to Union Station, the train is often the simplest of all; see below.
When is the airport limo stand worth it?
When you want a better car than a standard taxi, have not booked anything, and are happy to take whichever premium black car is next in line. Pearson describes these as premium black cars charging approximately 10 % more than a taxi on the same flat-rate basis. The trade-offs are the same as the taxi: no vehicle choice, no child seats arranged in advance, no flight tracking and nobody waiting if your bags are slow. If those things matter, the airport limo stand is not the right tool.
When does a pre-booked chauffeur clearly win?
- Families: child seats fitted before you arrive at the curb (available at booking), and an SUV with room for the stroller.
- Groups: a Sprinter for 6, 7 or 12 people instead of a convoy of cabs, all leaving together. See Sprinter group transportation.
- Late or long-haul arrivals: flight tracking plus 60 minutes of included waiting on international flights covers a slow immigration hall or a missing bag.
- Business travel: a known car, a receipt in the company's name, and the option to keep the chauffeur for the afternoon.
- Trips beyond the city: Hamilton, Niagara, Barrie, Kitchener-Waterloo or cross-border, with a fixed fare and tolls on the planned route included.
- Rides to the airport: the stand only serves passengers leaving Pearson; a pre-booked car collects you at home, the office or the hotel.
What about rides to Pearson, not from it?
This is the part most taxi-vs-limo comparisons skip. The airport taxi and airport limo stands serve passengers leaving Pearson. For the trip out to the airport, you need something else: a city taxi, a ride-hail app, a friend, the train, or a pre-booked car. Booking ahead for a departure removes the early-morning question of whether a car will turn up. With us, the chauffeur arrives at your door at the agreed time, loads the bags, and drops you at your airline's departures door at Terminal 1 or Terminal 3. Give us the flight number and we use it to plan the pickup time. Our downtown Toronto to Pearson airport route covers the drive from the core in detail.
How far is Pearson from where you are going?
Planning figures, not prices. The reservation engine shows the exact fixed fare for your address, date, time and vehicle.
| Destination from Pearson (YYZ) | Typical distance | Typical drive time |
|---|---|---|
| Downtown Toronto (Union Station) | about 27 km | 25–45 min |
| Yorkville & Midtown | about 25 km | 25–40 min |
| North York | about 20 km | 20–35 min |
| Etobicoke | about 12 km | 15–25 min |
| Mississauga City Centre | about 12 km | 15–25 min |
| Brampton | about 20 km | 20–30 min |
| Vaughan | about 25 km | 20–35 min |
| Markham | about 40 km | 30–45 min |
| Oakville | about 30 km | 25–40 min |
| Hamilton | about 60 km | 40–60 min |
| Niagara Falls | about 125 km | 80–105 min |
From downtown, the airport is reached via the Gardiner and Highway 427 or via Highway 401. If the planned route uses the 407 ETR, the toll is included in our fixed fare.
Is rideshare a good alternative at Pearson?
Uber, Lyft and Hopp are available for pickup at Pearson, from their own signed zones. Rideshare can work well for one or two travellers with light bags and a flexible budget, and the app shows the fare before you request. The differences from a pre-booked chauffeur: fares can move with demand, you get whatever vehicle accepts, child seats are not something you can count on, and nobody is watching your flight while you wait for bags. Our blog explains where Uber picks up at Pearson if you go that way. Toronto licenses vehicle-for-hire services through the city; the City of Toronto's vehicle-for-hire licensing page is the place to read the rules.
And the UP Express?
For a solo traveller with a carry-on going between Terminal 1 and Union Station, the UP Express is often the simplest choice: about 28 minutes, with stops at Weston, Mount Dennis and Bloor. It starts at Terminal 1, so Terminal 3 passengers take the Terminal Link train across first. A car wins for door-to-door trips, families and groups, heavy luggage and late nights. We will not repeat the full comparison here; our UP Express vs limo guide covers it in depth, and the UP Express Pearson station page shows how to pair a train with a car at the Union end.

Can you get an accessible vehicle at Pearson?
Yes, in two ways. Pearson says accessible vehicles that can carry a non-folding mobility aid are available on request at the limousine stands. With us, a wheelchair-accessible vehicle is available when booked in advance: tell us at booking about the wheelchair or scooter so we send the right car. For passengers who can transfer to a seat, any of our cars can carry a folding wheelchair or walker, and the chauffeur helps with the transfer and the bags. Arrange wheelchair assistance inside the terminal with your airline.
What about luggage, pets and other rules?
On luggage, a sedan takes two passengers and two bags, an SUV six and four, and Sprinters more again; if you are unsure, size up rather than down. In our vehicles, alcohol is not allowed on board; sealed, unopened purchases may ride in the trunk. Pets need prior written approval, so request it at booking; service animals are welcome but please mention them. These rules apply to our cars only.
When should you keep the car by the hour instead?
When the airport is the first stop of several. A chauffeur kept by the hour (3-hour minimum for sedans, SUVs, vans and Sprinters, then 30-minute blocks) collects you at Door A, waits outside meetings with your bags in the trunk, and takes you on to the hotel, a dinner or a second airport. It is usually simpler than chaining taxis and rideshares across the GTA, and you are never standing on a curb waiting for the next car. Read about our hourly chauffeur service, or compare the options in our hourly vs point-to-point guide.
How do you book a pre-arranged Pearson pickup?
- Open the reservation engine on any page, or go straight to /book/.
- Choose Toronto Pearson (YYZ), enter your flight number, and add the destination.
- Pick the vehicle for your passengers and bags; add child seats or meet and greet if you want them.
- See the fixed, all-in fare and confirm. No app to download, no aggregator in the middle.
- On arrival, collect your bags and head to Door A at your terminal, or look for your chauffeur inside if you added meet and greet.
Also need a flight or a hotel? Our travel desk books those alongside the car. More on the airport itself is on our Pearson airport limo service and airport limo service pages, and in the full set of Toronto travel guides.
