A car service to Pearson Terminal 1 drops you at the Terminal 1 departures level, where Air Canada checks in, and collects you at the terminal's pre-arranged pickup area on the arrivals curb. Terminal 1 is about 27 km and 25–45 minutes from downtown Toronto. Give the flight number when you book: dispatch tracks it and sends the car to the right terminal.
What does a car service to Pearson Terminal 1 involve?
Terminal 1 is Pearson's largest terminal and the Toronto home of Air Canada, along with many of its partner airlines. A pre-booked black car takes you to the Terminal 1 departures level for an outbound flight and meets you at the terminal's designated pickup area for pre-arranged rides when you land. Our Pearson terminal pickup guide explains the layout of both terminals; this post focuses on Terminal 1 and the Air Canada traveller. The airline-to-terminal map can change, so always check the e-ticket or the airline app before you book, and enter the airline and flight number in the reservation engine. That single detail removes most of the confusion we see at Pearson.
Is Air Canada always at Terminal 1?
At Toronto Pearson, Air Canada operates from Terminal 1, and that has been the arrangement for many years. Some partner and codeshare flights sold with an Air Canada flight number are operated by other airlines, and those can use a different terminal. That is the trap: a ticket bought from one airline, flown by another. The operating airline decides the terminal. Look for "operated by" on your booking. If it says another carrier, check that carrier's terminal on Pearson's website. When you book a car with the flight number, our dispatch reads the live flight record, so the chauffeur heads to the terminal the flight actually uses.

Domestic, US or international: how early at Terminal 1?
Terminal 1 handles all three types of Air Canada flight, and they need different amounts of time. Domestic flights clear security and go to the gate. US flights clear security and then US preclearance in the terminal, so the queue is longer; Air Canada asks passengers on US flights leaving Toronto before 9 a.m. to arrive no later than three hours ahead. International flights have longer check-in windows and larger aircraft. Check the airline's check-in and bag-drop cut-offs, then add the drive and a rush-hour buffer. Our sibling post on how early to arrive at Pearson works through real pickup times.
Where does the car drop you for an Air Canada departure?
At the Terminal 1 departures level curb, which is where Air Canada's check-in halls are. The chauffeur pulls in, unloads the bags and you walk inside. Curbs are for loading only, and Pearson's enforcement keeps cars moving, so have passports and boarding passes in hand before arrival. If you are flying with heavy bags or several children, say so at booking; the chauffeur will help get everything onto a cart. If you use a premium or special-assistance check-in, tell dispatch, and the chauffeur will aim for the nearest point along the curb. We do not print door numbers here, because signage changes; your chauffeur knows the current layout.
Where does the chauffeur meet you when you land at Terminal 1?
At the designated pickup area for pre-arranged rides on the arrivals curb. Pearson's own pre-arranged services page explains that pre-booked taxis and limousines meet passengers there, and that you tell the pickup-area staff you are waiting for a pre-arranged ride. When your phone comes back on after landing, the chauffeur's text gives the car, plate and exact spot. If you would rather be met inside, meet and greet with a name board is an optional add-on, available at booking. Our post on international arrivals pickups explains the customs-to-car timing for long-haul flights.

How long will the car wait after an Air Canada arrival?
Flight tracking is included, so the pickup time follows the actual landing, not the schedule. Included waiting starts when the aircraft lands: 30 minutes on Canadian domestic and US flights and 60 minutes on all other international arrivals. After that, waiting is added in 15-minute blocks, and the chauffeur messages you before extra time starts. If your bag is missing or you are pulled aside at customs, send a message and the car simply stays. On a long delay or a diverted flight, dispatch rebooks around the new arrival without you having to call.
What if you connect from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3?
Some trips combine Air Canada with an airline that uses Terminal 3. If you are connecting airside on a single ticket, follow the airline's connection signs. If you are on separate tickets and need to leave one terminal and check in at the other, the free Terminal Link train connects Terminal 1, Terminal 3 and Viscount station. A car between terminals is rarely needed, but it does help when a family has a mountain of luggage or a passenger has limited mobility. Tell dispatch about the connection, and the chauffeur can collect at Terminal 1 arrivals and drop at Terminal 3 departures.
Is the UP Express a better way to reach Terminal 1?
For some travellers, yes. The UP Express runs from Union Station directly to Terminal 1 in about 28 minutes, with stops at Bloor, Mount Dennis and Weston. If you are alone, with a carry-on, near Union and flying Air Canada, the train is hard to beat. A car is the better choice from anywhere far from Union, for families with car seats and checked bags, for very early flights, and when you want a private place to work or take calls. Our UP Express to Pearson station page has the details of the train side.
Which vehicle should you book for Terminal 1?
Match the vehicle to bags, not just people. A business sedan carries two passengers and two large cases. An executive flying alone often prefers a first-class sedan for the rear-seat space. A family of four with checked luggage belongs in an SUV, which seats six with four large bags. A sports team, a choir or a conference group heading to Terminal 1 together fits a Sprinter. Child seats are available at booking. We have a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, available when booked in advance; we fold and stow wheelchairs for passengers who can transfer into a seat.
When does an hourly chauffeur make sense around a Terminal 1 flight?
When the flight is part of a longer day. A consultant landing on an early Air Canada flight from Montreal, with meetings on Bay Street and in Mississauga and a return flight at 7 p.m., is a natural hourly chauffeur booking: the car meets them at Terminal 1, holds the overnight bag in the trunk all day and takes them back to departures in the evening. The minimum is three hours for sedans and SUVs, extra time in 30-minute blocks. The same applies to a family wanting to stop at a relative's home or a hotel before an onward drive.
What does the fare include?
No prices are published on this site. The reservation engine at /book/ shows the fixed, all-in fare before you confirm: the chauffeur, the vehicle, fuel, airport fees and gratuity, with HST shown separately. There is no meter and no surge. The fare changes with the vehicle class, the distance and drive time from your address, extra stops, waiting beyond the included time, and the date and season. Meet and greet and child seats are available at booking. Our how our fares work page sets out each element.
Common Terminal 1 mistakes and how to avoid them
- Booking the terminal from memory instead of checking "operated by" on the ticket.
- Typing the departure city instead of the flight number for an arrival.
- Leaving passports in a checked bag on a US-bound flight.
- Not mentioning ski bags, hockey bags or golf clubs, so the wrong vehicle arrives.
- Walking to the rideshare zone instead of the pre-arranged pickup area when your chauffeur is waiting.
- Phone in airplane mode after landing; the chauffeur's text cannot reach you.
What happens on a winter morning at Terminal 1?
Winter changes the rhythm more than the route. Aircraft de-icing can hold departures on the ground, so check the airline app before leaving, but do not assume a delay; leave on time unless the airline has changed the departure. Our cars run winter tires from November to April and chauffeurs set off earlier when snow or freezing rain is forecast, using Environment Canada's forecasts and highway reports to choose between the Gardiner and the 401. At the curb, slush and salt make the walk to the doors slippery, so the chauffeur unloads close to the entrance and carries the heavy bags. For arrivals, a delayed or diverted flight is tracked automatically and the chauffeur adjusts.
Planning a trip through Terminal 1

Visitors staying near the airport the night before an early Air Canada departure can compare options on our Pearson airport hotels page.
