Sprinter van capacity at TorontoBlackLimousine.com is 12 passengers in the Sprinter luxury van, 7 in the Executive Sprinter's lounge layout and 6 in the First-class Executive Sprinter's captain's chairs. With all 12 seats filled, plan one checked case and one small bag per person. Golf bags, skis, strollers and equipment cases take two or three cases' space; above that, add an SUV.
Sprinter van capacity is the question dispatch hears most from group organisers, usually in the form "will we all fit?". The seat count is fixed and printed on the booking; the luggage is where plans go wrong. This post works through real loads, from an airport group of twelve to a ski weekend, so you can choose the right vehicle before the day. For the vehicles and how group bookings work, see our Sprinter van and group transportation page.
Sprinter van capacity: how many people and bags fit?
Our own Sprinter fleet has three layouts. The Sprinter luxury van seats 12 in forward-facing seats and is the workhorse for airport groups, wedding guests and crews. The Executive Sprinter seats 7 in lounge seating, and the First-class Executive Sprinter seats 6 in captain's chairs with work tables.
Luggage space depends on the layout and on how many seats are occupied. In the 12-seat van with every seat filled, the reliable planning figure is one checked suitcase and one small bag, such as a backpack or carry-on, per person. With fewer passengers, there is more room for bags. For the two executive layouts, put the exact bag count in the notes and dispatch confirms what fits.
Why is the seat count a legal limit, not a suggestion?
Because every passenger needs a seat with a seatbelt. A 12-seat van carries 12 people, not 13 with someone on a lap or on the floor, and that includes children and the friend who joins at the last stop. The chauffeur will not leave with more people than seats, and dispatch cannot override it on the night.
Driving a passenger vehicle for hire also requires the right licence class and commercial insurance. Ontario sets out the licensing for larger passenger vehicles on its bus driver's licence page; it is one reason a chauffeured Sprinter is a safer answer than a self-drive van. Count every person, including infants in car seats, before you choose the vehicle.
What changes when every seat is filled?
The seats take space that would otherwise hold luggage. With 12 people on board, the space behind the last row and the overhead areas carry the bags, and the rule of one case and one small bag each is realistic. With eight people in the same van, a row can be left empty for extra cases, and the van carries far more.
That is why the cheapest-looking plan, 12 people and 24 suitcases in one van, is the one that fails at the curb. If your group travels heavy, book for the bags as well as the bodies: either fewer people per van or a second vehicle for the luggage.
How do the vehicle classes compare for seats and bags?
| Vehicle | Seats | Luggage with every seat full | Best for | Hourly minimum |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Business sedan | 2 | 2 bags | Solo or couple | 3 h |
| SUV (Yukon XL / Suburban) | 6 | 4 bags | Families, luggage overflow | 3 h |
| Premier luxury SUV | 6 | 4 bags | VIP small groups | 3 h |
| First-class Executive Sprinter | 6 | Confirm the bag count at booking | Leadership teams, roadshows | 3 h |
| Executive Sprinter | 7 | Confirm the bag count at booking | Lounge seating, site visits | 3 h |
| Sprinter luxury van | 12 | About one case and one small bag each | Airport groups, guests, crews | 3 h |
| Party bus (partner) | 20 or 30 | Very limited | Celebrations, not luggage | 4 to 5 h |
| Coach (partner) | 55 | Under-floor bays | Large groups with full luggage | On request |
Sedans, SUVs and Sprinters are our own vehicles. Party buses and coaches come from vetted partner operators in the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network on the same booking.
How does an airport group of twelve fit?
A family reunion or a team of twelve landing at Toronto Pearson (YYZ) with one checked case and one carry-on each fits one 12-seat van. Pearson is about 27 km and 25 to 45 minutes from downtown. We track the flight and meet the group at the airport's pre-arranged pickup area, with 30 minutes of waiting included on Canadian and US flights and 60 minutes on other international flights; Pearson's transportation and parking page shows the terminal layout.
If the same twelve each check two large cases, they will not fit with all seats filled. The usual fix is an SUV alongside the van, which takes about four cases and up to six people. Our Pearson airport limo page covers terminal pickups in detail.
What about golf bags?
A golf bag takes the space of two or three suitcases, so golf groups need fewer people per van. Eight golfers with bags and small overnight bags fit comfortably in one 12-seat van, with the spare seats giving room for the clubs. Twelve golfers with bags need a second vehicle, usually an SUV.
Golf days around Toronto are often in King City, about 45 km and 40 to 55 minutes from downtown, or Caledon, about 55 km and 45 to 60 minutes. Booked by the hour, the van waits at the club and the bags stay locked inside between the round and dinner. Tell dispatch the number of bags and whether any are travel cases, which are bulkier.
Can a Sprinter take skis and snowboards to Blue Mountain?
Yes, with the same rule: skis, snowboards and boot bags take the space of two or three cases per person. A group of eight skiers with boards and weekend bags is a good load for one van; twelve skiers need a second vehicle, or an SUV sent ahead with some of the gear.
Blue Mountain is about 160 km and 120 to 150 minutes from downtown, longer in snow squalls on Highway 400 and Highway 26. Our cars run winter tires from November to April. See the Toronto to Blue Mountain route for timing, and book the return leg with the same bag count, since souvenirs and wet gear take more room on the way home.

How do strollers and child car seats affect capacity?
Every child car seat sits on a passenger seat, so a family of five with two car seats still uses five seats. Infant seats, convertible seats and boosters are available at booking; tell us the number, ages and weights. Ontario's guide to choosing a child car seat explains which seat suits which child.
Strollers count as large items. A compact folding stroller takes about one case's space; a full-size travel system takes two. A family with two strollers, two car seats and two cases each fits better in a van than an SUV, even if there are only five of them. Put strollers in the booking notes so the chauffeur loads them last and unloads them first.
Can wheelchairs and walkers travel in a Sprinter?
Folding wheelchairs, walkers and canes are stowed for passengers who can transfer to a seat, and the chauffeur helps with the step and the folding. Each folded wheelchair takes about two cases' space, so count it in the luggage plan.
For a passenger who needs to travel seated in a wheelchair or scooter, TorontoBlackLimousine.com has a wheelchair-accessible vehicle. Book it in advance and tell us at booking about the wheelchair or scooter, its size and whether the passenger transfers. The TTC's Wheel-Trans service remains an alternative for eligible riders within the city.
How do wedding parties with dresses and bouquets fit?
Formal wear changes the arithmetic. Long dresses, bouquets and photographers' bags need more room than suitcases, and nobody wants to crush a gown. A bridal party of eight to ten travels comfortably in a 12-seat van; twelve in full gowns is a tight fit.
For the couple, a separate car is usually better. Our posts on the wedding shuttle for guests and the Rolls-Royce wedding car show how the wedding fleet divides up: one car for the couple, a van or stretch for the party, and a shuttle for guests.
Which Sprinter suits long trips with fewer people?
For long trips, comfort matters more than the maximum. Six people going to Ottawa, about 450 km and 4.5 to 5 hours, travel far better in the 7-seat Executive Sprinter or the 6-seat First-class Executive Sprinter than spread across a 12-seat van. Lounge seating lets people face each other, and the work tables turn a long drive into a meeting.
On very long days we plan rest stops every two to three hours, and a second chauffeur or an overnight stay with the chauffeur staying over can be arranged at booking. For trips across the border, NEXUS-holding chauffeurs are available on request.
What about equipment for bands, crews and trade shows?
Equipment is where the "one case each" rule stops working. Instrument cases, light stands, camera carts and trade-show crates come in every shape, and some will not fit in a passenger van at all. Send dispatch the item list with approximate sizes, and say whether anything must travel upright.
For productions and show builds, a common pattern is a 12-seat van for people and an SUV or a separate freight arrangement for gear. Our film and TV production page covers crew runs, and the hourly chauffeur service suits days when the van must wait between a hotel, a venue and a loading dock.
When should you add a second vehicle instead of squeezing?
Add a vehicle when any of these is true:
- More than one large case per person with every seat filled.
- More than three bulky items: golf bags, ski bags, strollers, wheelchairs, equipment.
- The group will split during the day, with some leaving early.
- The trip is longer than about two hours and the van would be full.
- Some passengers need to go to a different address at the end.
A van plus an SUV usually costs less in stress than one overloaded van, and both are our own vehicles on one booking.

How does an hourly booking change what you can carry?
On an hourly booking, the vehicle and chauffeur stay with you, so bags stay locked in the van between stops. That matters for days with several places: a hotel checkout, a lunch, an afternoon at a venue and an evening flight. Nobody has to carry luggage into a restaurant or leave it with a concierge.
Sprinters carry a 3-hour minimum, with extra time in 30-minute blocks. Our hourly versus point-to-point guide explains when holding the vehicle beats a string of one-way trips. If the group is also booking flights or hotels, the travel desk can help with the rest of the trip.
What should you put in the booking notes?
- The exact number of passengers, including infants.
- The number of checked cases and carry-ons.
- Every bulky item: golf bags, skis, strollers, wheelchairs, instruments.
- Child seats needed, with ages and weights.
- Flight numbers for airport pickups.
- Any passenger who needs help with steps, or who travels seated in a wheelchair.
- Pets: these need prior approval, so request at booking and wait for written confirmation. Service animals are welcome; mention them at booking.
With that list, dispatch confirms the vehicle or suggests a second one before the day, not at the curb.
How do I book the right Sprinter?
Open the reservation engine, choose one-way or hourly, pick the Sprinter class for your group, and enter the addresses, date and time. Put the passenger and bag counts in the notes. The fixed, all-in fare, including the chauffeur, fuel, tolls on the planned route and gratuity, with HST shown separately, appears before you confirm. For party buses, coaches or several vehicles, a coordinator prices the plan in writing.
