The Toronto Zoo is in north-east Scarborough off Meadowvale Road, just north of Highway 401, about 40 km (35–50 minutes) from downtown Toronto and about 50 km (40–60 minutes) from Toronto Pearson (YYZ). A limo to the Toronto Zoo with TorontoBlackLimousine.com drops the family at the entrance, skips Toronto Zoo parking, and brings you home at closing. Book direct.
Limo to the Toronto Zoo: why families book a car
A limo to the Toronto Zoo sounds like a treat, and for a birthday it is, but most of our zoo bookings are practical. The zoo sits on the far eastern edge of the city, the site is large, and a family day there involves a lot of walking, strollers, snacks and at least one tired child at the end. By transit it is a long ride with changes; by self-drive it means the 401 in both directions plus the parking lot. With a TorontoBlackLimousine.com SUV or Sprinter, the chauffeur picks up at your home or hotel with child seats fitted, drives the DVP and the 401, and drops you at the entrance. The zoo's own site lists its geographic areas and pavilions, from the African Savanna to Tundra Trek, the Americas and Australasia Pavilions, Indo-Malaya and Eurasia Wilds (torontozoo.com). The reservation engine shows your fixed, all-in fare before you confirm.
Distance and drive time to the Toronto Zoo
Planning figures from our dispatch desk; the engine uses your exact address, date and time.
| From | To Toronto Zoo, Meadowvale Rd | Distance | Typical drive |
|---|---|---|---|
| Union Station / Financial District | via DVP & Hwy 401 | about 40 km | 35–50 min |
| Yorkville & Midtown | via DVP & Hwy 401 | about 36 km | 35–50 min |
| Toronto Pearson (YYZ), T1 or T3 | via Hwy 401 east | about 50 km | 40–60 min |
| North York (Yonge & Sheppard) | via Hwy 401 east | about 27 km | 25–40 min |
| Scarborough Town Centre | via Hwy 401 east | about 12 km | 12–20 min |
| Markham | via local roads | about 20 km | 20–30 min |
| Pickering & Ajax | via Hwy 401 west | about 15 km | 15–25 min |
Highway 401 through Scarborough is one of the busiest stretches of road in the country, so weekday rush hours are the times to avoid; our dispatchers check Ontario 511 before every departure and may use the 407 ETR from Pearson when the 401 is jammed.
Toronto Zoo parking versus a chauffeur
Toronto Zoo parking is a paid lot beside the entrance, and on summer weekends, school holidays and special event evenings it fills. Arriving by car means waiting to get in, finding a space, walking to the gate with a stroller and doing the same in reverse at the end of the day. A chauffeur changes that: you are dropped close to the entrance and picked up there, and nobody in the family has to drive 40 km home along the 401 after five hours of walking. We do not quote the zoo's parking charges; they are on the zoo's site. For grandparents, parents with toddlers and visitors staying downtown without a car, the chauffeur is the simplest option by far.
Where does the chauffeur drop off at the Toronto Zoo?
We describe this generally because the zoo's traffic routing changes with events and construction. Cars follow the signs from Meadowvale Road into the zoo grounds and drop at the main entrance area, where passengers unload with strollers and bags. Larger vehicles such as Sprinters and coaches follow the zoo's directions for buses. For the pickup, tell dispatch the approximate time you plan to leave and text when you begin walking out; the zoo is big, and it can take a while to walk back from the far pavilions, which is why on an hourly booking the car stays nearby. Groups should agree a single meeting point at the entrance so the chauffeur is not waiting for stragglers across the site.

How long should I allow at the Toronto Zoo?
The zoo is large, and most families find that four to five hours is realistic for the main areas at a toddler's pace, with lunch. Visitors who want to see every pavilion, including the Tundra Trek and the Canadian Domain, often stay closer to six hours. The zoo's website listed longer weekend hours and shorter weekday hours when we checked today, with last admission an hour before closing; hours change by season, so check the official site before you set the pickup. A three- to four-hour visit with young children fits the 3-hour minimum on an hourly chauffeur with a little room; for a full day, two one-way bookings are usually better value.
Best times to visit the Toronto Zoo
Spring and autumn weekdays are pleasant and quieter, with cooler temperatures that make the animals more active and the walking easier. Summer weekends and the weeks when schools are out are the busiest. Winter visits are quieter still, and the heated pavilions make a cold-weather trip possible; our cars run winter tires from November to April and are warm at the gate when you come out. Mornings are generally the best time to see active animals, so an early pickup from downtown, leaving around the start of the morning rush, is common. On public holidays the 401 in both directions is slow in the late afternoon, and the upper end of the drive-time range applies.
Pearson to the Toronto Zoo for visiting families
Families arriving at Toronto Pearson (YYZ) sometimes head for the zoo on their first full day, often from an east-end or Durham hotel. The run from Pearson is about 50 km along the 401, usually 40–60 minutes, or a little longer but steadier on the tolled 407 ETR. Our Pearson airport limo page explains the pickup area on the arrivals-level curb, included waiting (30 minutes for Canadian domestic and US flights, 60 for other international arrivals) and the optional meet and greet inside arrivals. On the last day of a trip, a zoo morning can end with the car taking you straight to departures, with the luggage already in the trunk.
Hourly chauffeur or one-way for the zoo?
For a full family day, two one-way bookings usually make the most sense: out in the morning, back at the time you choose. An hourly chauffeur in Toronto is the better choice when the visit is short (three to four hours), when you are combining the zoo with another stop, such as the Rouge or the Scarborough Bluffs, or when you cannot predict when the children will be done. Hourly bookings have a 3-hour minimum, with extra time in 30-minute blocks, and the chauffeur stays nearby the whole time. Our hourly versus point to point guide explains the choice with examples.
Hourly itinerary: the zoo and the east end in five hours
- Downtown hotel to the Toronto Zoo (about 40 km, 35–50 min). Three hours in the zoo.
- Zoo to a trailhead in Rouge National Urban Park (a few km, 5–10 min) for a short, stroller-friendly walk, 45 minutes (Rouge National Urban Park).
- Rouge to the Scarborough Bluffs (about 20 km, 25–35 min) for the lake views, 30 minutes.
- Bluffs back downtown (about 20 km, 25–40 min).
See our Rouge National Urban Park and Scarborough Bluffs pages for access notes. With a toddler, cut the Bluffs and head home.
Which vehicle should I book for a zoo trip?
The six-seat SUV suits most families: car seats in the second row, a folded stroller and a cooler in the back. The premier luxury SUV gives more comfort for grandparents on a special day. Two families together, or a family with visiting relatives, fit in the twelve-seat Sprinter luxury van. School trips, day camps, and corporate family days travel on a 55-seat coach, booked on one file with a coordinator confirming in writing. Tell dispatch the number and ages of children, and how many strollers, so the right car and the right number of seats arrive.
Child seats, strollers and accessibility
Child seats (infant, convertible and booster) are available at booking, and chauffeurs fit them before pickup so you are not wrestling with straps at the curb. Strollers fold into the trunk. The zoo publishes its own accessibility and rental information on its site. We have a wheelchair-accessible vehicle for anyone who must stay seated in a wheelchair or scooter, available when booked in advance: chauffeurs fold and stow wheelchairs and walkers for passengers who can transfer to a seat. On hot days the car is cooled before pickup and carries bottled water; after a summer day at the zoo, that cold car at the gate is what the family remembers.
Is transit or a car better for the Toronto Zoo?
For a solo adult or a couple travelling light, the TTC reaches the zoo by bus from the subway, and it is a reasonable choice on a weekday. The trip from downtown is long, though, with at least one change, and the return at closing is often crowded. A car wins clearly for families with young children, strollers and car seats, for grandparents who would rather not stand on a bus, for visitors staying downtown without a car, and for anyone who wants to combine the zoo with a second stop. Compared with self-driving, the chauffeur removes the 401 in both directions and the parking lot at both ends, which on a summer Saturday is most of the stress of the day.
Hotels near the Toronto Zoo
There are no hotels in the zoo grounds, but Scarborough and the Durham Region have plenty within 15–25 minutes; our Scarborough hotels and Durham Region hotels pages carry distances and pickup notes. From Financial District hotels the trip is about 40 km, 35–50 minutes, and many visitors simply stay downtown and use the car for the day. Our travel desk can arrange flights and a hotel on the same file as your chauffeur if you are planning a family trip to Toronto from abroad.
Adults heading east: Pickering and the Durham Region
Some groups combine the zoo with an adult evening further east. Pickering Casino Resort is about 15 km east of the zoo, typically 15–25 minutes via Highway 401; entry is 19+ only, so plan it for the adults once the children are back at the hotel. Our Pickering Casino Resort page covers drop-off and hourly options, and our Pickering and Ajax page covers the wider area. For corporate family days, where a company brings staff to the zoo and then hosts a dinner, a Sprinter or coach on an hourly booking keeps the whole group together.
