For a family airport pickup in Toronto, book an SUV for up to six or a Sprinter for up to twelve so everyone and the luggage ride together from Pearson. We track the flight, wait from actual landing (30 minutes on domestic and US flights, 60 on other international arrivals) and fit child seats at booking. Book the family pickup and see the fixed fare first.
Family airport pickup Toronto: what makes a family arrival different?
A family airport pickup in Toronto is rarely one traveller with a carry-on. It is grandparents after a fourteen-hour flight, three children, a stroller, six large suitcases and a box of gifts, landing at the same moment as several other long-haul flights. The vehicle has to fit everyone and everything, the timing has to absorb customs and baggage delays, and someone has to be patient.
We plan for exactly that. Dispatch picks a vehicle by both headcount and bag count, tracks the flight, starts the included waiting time from actual landing, and keeps the family on one vehicle so nobody is left behind with half the luggage. The fare on the reservation engine is fixed and all-in, including airport fees, with HST shown separately.
Who books family arrivals and reunion transportation?
- Families welcoming parents or grandparents from overseas for a long visit, a new baby or a holiday season.
- Newcomers' relatives arriving for the first time, who may not speak English and need a calm, clear pickup.
- Wedding families whose guests land over several days.
- Reunion organisers bringing relatives from across Canada and the US for one weekend, then moving everyone to a picnic, a dinner or a hall.
- Students' parents arriving for move-in day or convocation; see the graduation and convocation page.
- Families returning home from a long trip, with children asleep and too much luggage for a taxi.
Family reunion transportation is often a weekend of rides rather than one, which is why we usually suggest an hourly vehicle for the main day. Every other celebration we drive is on our occasions page.
How do Pearson pickups work for families?
Toronto Pearson has two passenger terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 3; check the airline booking for the right one. Pre-arranged cars like ours meet passengers at the designated pickup area on the arrivals-level curb, and the passenger tells the pickup-area dispatcher they are waiting for a pre-arranged ride, as described on Pearson's pre-arranged services page. Curbside pickup there is what the standard fare includes.
For families who would like someone waiting inside, a meet and greet with a name board in the arrivals hall is an optional add-on at booking. It is especially useful for older relatives travelling alone or anyone arriving in Canada for the first time. The Pearson terminal pickup guide walks through the steps.
How much waiting time is included after landing?
We track the flight and start the waiting time from the actual landing, not the scheduled one. Included waiting is 30 minutes on Canadian domestic and US flights and 60 minutes on all other international arrivals, after which waiting continues in 15-minute blocks. International arrivals take longer because of immigration, customs and the baggage hall, and families with several large bags are often among the last out.
Ask relatives to message the family contact when they clear customs and when they have every bag. The contact passes that to the chauffeur, who moves into the pickup area at the right time.
Which vehicle fits the family and all the luggage?
| Family | Vehicle | Seats / bags | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Couple with 2 cases | Business sedan | 2 / 2 | Simple, quiet |
| Up to 6 people, 4 big cases | SUV | 6 / 4 | Yukon XL or Suburban class |
| Up to 6 people, more comfort | Premier luxury SUV | 6 / 4 | Navigator or Escalade class |
| Up to 7 with 7 bags | Executive Sprinter | 7 / 7 | Lounge seating |
| Up to 12 with luggage | Sprinter luxury van | 12 / 12 | One vehicle for the clan |
| Reunion of 30 or more | Coach | 55 / 55 | Partner vehicle, priced in writing |
When the bag count is higher than the seat count, size up. A six-seat SUV with six adults and eight suitcases does not work; a Sprinter does.
Do you have child seats for families arriving at Pearson?
Infant seats, convertible seats and boosters are available at booking. Tell us each child's age and weight so the right seats are fitted before the chauffeur leaves for the airport; Ontario's guide to choosing a child car seat explains the stages. Strollers fold into the cargo area.
If relatives are bringing their own car seat on the flight, note it in the booking; the chauffeur can install it at the curb, though it takes a few minutes in a busy pickup area. Allow for that when you plan the drive home.
How far is Pearson from where the family lives?
Planning figures from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to common family destinations, and from downtown for comparison:
| Destination | From Pearson (YYZ) | From downtown (Union) |
|---|---|---|
| Downtown Toronto | About 27 km, 25–45 min | — |
| Brampton | About 15 km, 15–25 min | 45 km, 40–55 min |
| Mississauga City Centre | About 15 km, 15–25 min | 30 km, 30–45 min |
| Vaughan | About 20 km, 20–30 min | 35 km, 30–45 min |
| Richmond Hill | About 35 km, 30–40 min | 30 km, 30–45 min |
| Markham | About 40 km, 30–45 min | 35 km, 30–45 min |
| Scarborough | About 40 km, 35–50 min | 25 km, 25–40 min |
| Oakville | About 30 km, 25–35 min | 38 km, 30–45 min |
| Hamilton | About 65 km, 45–65 min | 68 km, 50–75 min |
The 401 through the city is slow at weekday rush hours; the 407 ETR is faster and tolled, and tolls are included in the fare when used. The Brampton, Markham and Mississauga pages carry more route detail.
What if relatives land on different flights the same day?
Big family gatherings often mean three or four arrivals spread over an afternoon. There are two good ways to handle it. If the flights are close together, one hourly vehicle waits at the airport and collects each group as it clears customs, then drives everyone home together. If the flights are hours apart, separate one-way transfers are better, each tracked on its own flight.
Send dispatch the flight numbers, airlines, terminals and names for each group, and we recommend the plan. For a wedding or reunion weekend with a dozen arrivals, a coordinator puts the whole schedule in writing.
How does a typical reunion day run?
A six-hour Saturday plan for a family of eleven staying with relatives in Markham:
| Time | Step | Distance and drive | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10:00 am | Pickup, Markham home | Start | Sprinter luxury van |
| 10:45 am | Family photo, Toronto Islands ferry docks | About 35 km, 35–45 min | Ferry over, chauffeur waits |
| 1:30 pm | Lunch, Distillery District or Chinatown | About 3 km, 10–15 min | Waits nearby |
| 3:00 pm | CN Tower or Ripley's Aquarium | About 3 km, 10 min | Grandparents can rest in the car |
| 4:00 pm | Return to Markham | About 35 km, 35–50 min | End of booking |
The city tours page and the Toronto Islands and CN Tower pages give ideas and drop-off detail. Ferry times are on the City of Toronto ferry page.
Can we take visiting family to Niagara Falls for the day?
It is the most requested day out for relatives visiting Toronto. Niagara Falls is about 130 km and 85 to 110 minutes from downtown, and about 125 km from Pearson, by the QEW. A full day with the falls, a boat ride, lunch and a stop in Niagara-on-the-Lake runs eight to ten hours. Book it as an hourly day so the chauffeur waits at each stop and older relatives can rest in the vehicle between sights.
Relatives who want to cross into the United States need the right documents for the US and for returning to Canada; check CBSA and CBP well ahead. The Niagara Falls tours page has route and timing detail.
What documents do visiting relatives need?
Entry requirements depend on nationality: some visitors flying to Canada need an electronic travel authorization (eTA), others a visitor visa. The rules and the online application are on the Government of Canada eTA page, and IRCC has the visa information. Check well before booking flights, because processing times vary.
We do not advise on immigration; we make sure the car is there when your relatives come out of the arrivals hall, however long the queue was.
What about relatives arriving by train or at Billy Bishop?
Not every relative lands at Pearson. Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) is 3 to 5 km and 10 to 20 minutes from the Financial District; cars meet passengers at the mainland pavilion on Eireann Quay, as described on Billy Bishop's pickup page. Families coming from Montreal, Ottawa or the US by train arrive at Union Station, where we track the train and meet at the station; the Union Station page explains the meeting point.
Relatives flying into Buffalo (about 160 km and 105 to 135 minutes from downtown) can be collected there, with every passenger carrying documents for re-entry to Canada.
How should elderly relatives travel after a long flight?
Long-haul flights are tiring, and older travellers may need help. Airlines arrange wheelchair assistance through the terminal when it is requested with the airline in advance; that takes the traveller from the aircraft to the arrivals curb or hall. Our chauffeur takes over from there, helping into the vehicle and stowing a folding wheelchair or walker for passengers who can transfer to a seat. We have a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, available when booked in advance; the medical appointments page explains alternatives for passengers who must stay in a wheelchair.
Water in the car and a direct route home without stops make the first hour in Canada easier.

Can the travel desk help with flights and hotels for the family?
Yes. Our travel desk, run with BookingWorldwide.net, can search flights into Pearson, Billy Bishop or Buffalo and hold hotels near the family home or the reunion venue, so flights, rooms and cars sit on one plan. That is useful when relatives cannot all stay at one house, or when a reunion needs a block of rooms near Pearson; see the Pearson airport hotels page for drive times from that area.

What happens on the day relatives fly home?
Departure day needs as much planning as arrival. Airlines generally advise arriving well ahead of international departures; check your airline for its own recommendation, then add the drive: about 27 km and 25 to 45 minutes from downtown to Pearson, longer at weekday rush hour or on a holiday weekend when the 401 and 427 back up. Book the pickup so the family reaches the terminal with time to spare for check-in and oversized bags.
The chauffeur drops at the departures curb of the right terminal and helps unload. If the farewell group is large, book a Sprinter so everyone can ride along to the airport and say goodbye at the curb.
How do we book a family airport pickup directly?
- Open the reservation engine and choose an airport pickup (or hourly service for a reunion day).
- Enter the airline, flight number and terminal, the passenger names and the drop-off address.
- Choose the vehicle by seats and bags; add child seats and meet and greet if needed.
- Review the fixed fare and confirm.
- For several arrivals or a coach, send the schedule and a coordinator confirms it in writing.
Cancellation is measured from the scheduled pickup: more than 72 hours is free; 72 hours or less is 10 %; 48 hours or less is 50 %; 24 hours or less or a no-show is 100 %. Pets travelling with the family need prior approval at booking.
