Markham to Pearson car service covers about 45 km from Markham Centre, typically 35–55 minutes. The 407 ETR is usually faster and more predictable; the 401 is similar in distance but can pass an hour at rush hour. The fixed fare depends on the vehicle class, distance and time, waiting, extra stops, the date and add-ons, and the reservation engine shows it before you confirm.
Markham sits on the opposite side of the GTA from the airport, so the drive to Pearson is one of the longer suburban runs we do, and the route matters more than usual. Our Markham car service page covers the city as a whole. This post goes deep on the airport trip: the 407 versus the 401, timing for early and rush-hour flights, and exactly what sets the fare.
Markham to Pearson car service: why does the route matter so much?
Because there are two very different ways across the top of the city. The 407 ETR runs east–west north of the 401, with fewer interchanges and lighter traffic; it is a tolled highway, with tolls set by the operator by distance and time of day (407etr.com). The 401 is the busiest highway in North America, and the stretch between the 404 and the 427 is among its slowest at rush hour, even with collector and express lanes. Off-peak, the two routes are within a few minutes of each other. At 7:30 a.m. or 4:30 p.m., they can be half an hour apart.
How do the two routes compare?
| Factor | 407 ETR route | 401 route |
|---|---|---|
| Distance from Markham Centre | about 45 km | about 45 km |
| Off-peak drive | about 35–45 min | about 35–45 min |
| Weekday rush hour | usually 40–55 min | often 60–80 min |
| Predictability | high, fewer interchanges | lower, collisions and merges |
| Toll road | yes, see 407etr.com | no |
| Best for | rush-hour and tight deadlines | late nights and light traffic |
These are planning figures. The chauffeur chooses the route on the day based on live traffic; tell us at booking if you have a preference.
How far is Pearson from different parts of Markham?
- Markham Centre (Highway 7 and Warden): about 45 km, 35–55 min.
- Unionville: about 45 km, 35–55 min.
- Cornell and Markham Village: about 50 km, 40–60 min.
- Thornhill (Markham side): about 38 km, 30–50 min.
- Armadale and Milliken: about 42 km, 35–55 min.

What sets the fare for a Markham to Pearson car?
We never publish prices, but we can tell you exactly what moves the number in the reservation engine:
- Vehicle class. A business sedan, an SUV, a first-class sedan and a Sprinter are each priced differently.
- Distance and time. Markham is a long run to Pearson, and the planned distance and duration feed the fare.
- Waiting. Included waiting on arrivals is 30 minutes for Canadian domestic and US flights and 60 minutes for other international arrivals, from landing; on other pickups, 15 minutes. Beyond that, 15-minute blocks.
- Extra stops. Collecting a colleague in Richmond Hill on the way adds a stop.
- Date and season. Holiday periods and busy event dates can affect availability and fares.
- Add-ons. Meet and greet inside the terminal and child seats are available at booking.
The fare shown before you confirm covers the chauffeur, the vehicle, fuel, airport fees and gratuity, with HST shown separately. It does not surge, and it does not change if traffic is bad. Open /book/ to see the exact figure, and see how our fares work for more.
How early should you leave Markham for a flight?
Work backwards from your airline's check-in and bag-drop cut-off, then add the drive and a buffer. As a planning rule:
- 6 a.m. flight: leave Markham about 3:30–3:45 a.m. Roads are empty; the drive is about 35–40 minutes.
- 9 a.m. flight: leave about 5:45–6:00 a.m., before the 401 builds.
- Midday flight: leave about 3 hours before departure.
- 5 p.m. flight: leave about 1:30 p.m., because the afternoon rush starts early on Fridays.
US and international flights need more time at the airport. Dispatch checks Ontario 511 the evening before and the morning of your trip and messages you if we recommend an earlier pickup.

How do arrivals from Pearson to Markham work?
We track your flight and time the chauffeur to the actual landing. The fare includes a curbside pickup at the terminal's designated pre-arranged pickup area on the arrivals level; you tell the pickup-area staff you are waiting for a pre-arranged ride, as Pearson explains. Meet and greet inside the arrivals hall with a name board is an optional add-on at booking. Check whether you are landing at Terminal 1 or Terminal 3; our Pearson terminal pickup guide covers both. A late-evening arrival home to Markham usually takes about 35–40 minutes once you are in the car.
Is transit an option from Markham to Pearson?
It is possible but long. From Markham, transit to the airport usually means the Stouffville GO line or a York Region Transit bus towards Toronto, then the subway or GO to Union Station, then the UP Express to Terminal 1, which its operator describes as a 28-minute run; see upexpress.com. That is several legs, with luggage, across the whole city. For a solo traveller with a backpack and plenty of time it can work. For families, early flights and heavy bags, the car's single 45 km leg is far simpler. Our post on the UP Express schedule for early flights explains why dawn flights are especially hard by train.
Which vehicle suits a Markham airport run?
- Business sedan or Tesla Model Y: one or two travellers with two bags. See the business sedan.
- First-class sedan: executives and VIP guests; a Mercedes S-Class.
- SUV or premier luxury SUV: families of up to six with four bags, and the winter choice. See the SUV and premier luxury SUV.
- Executive Sprinter: a team of up to seven flying out to a conference; see the executive Sprinter.
- Sprinter luxury van: groups of up to twelve with luggage.

Who books Markham to Pearson cars?
Markham has a large technology and business community along Highway 7 and the 404, and many families with relatives overseas, so our Markham airport runs fall into a few patterns. Executives flying out for the week, often on a corporate account through our corporate car service. Families heading on long-haul holidays with suitcases and children. Grandparents arriving from abroad who need a calm meet and greet. Students flying back to university. Each needs a slightly different vehicle and timing, which is why the booking asks for passengers, bags and the flight number.
Can the airport run be part of an hourly day?
Yes. Our hourly chauffeur service keeps one car and chauffeur with you for a three-hour minimum, with extra time in 30-minute blocks. A visiting executive might land at Pearson at 8 a.m., visit a client in the Airport Corporate Centre, drive across the 407 to meetings in Markham, have dinner in Unionville and stay at a Markham hotel. With bags in the trunk all day, nobody needs a taxi between stops.
What about corporate groups flying out of Markham?
Tech and business teams in Markham often fly out together to trade shows and conferences. Moving six people and their cases in one executive Sprinter or a first-class executive Sprinter means one pickup point at the office, one arrival at the terminal curb and no expense claims for six separate rides. For larger teams, two vehicles can be timed to arrive together, and multi-vehicle bookings are priced in writing by a coordinator. On the way back, the chauffeur tracks the flight and waits for the whole group, then drops people at the office or at individual homes across Markham, Richmond Hill and Stouffville. If your company books often, a corporate account gives monthly invoicing and several bookers on one profile.
Do you also drive from Markham to other airports?
Yes. Some Markham travellers find better flight options elsewhere. Billy Bishop downtown is about 38 km away via the 404 and the Don Valley Parkway; Oshawa Executive Airport (YOO) is about 40 km east on the 407; and Buffalo (BUF), across the border, is a longer run that needs passports for everyone. Our airports page lists every airport we serve with km and drive times. The booking flow is the same for each one.
What mistakes do Markham travellers make?
- Using the downtown drive time. Markham to Pearson is longer than downtown to Pearson.
- Planning on the 401 at rush hour. It can add half an hour or more.
- Forgetting the terminal. Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 have different approach roads.
- Booking a sedan for a family with four suitcases. Count the bags.
- Leaving the booking to the night before a holiday weekend. Book early for March Break and the December holidays.
How does winter affect the trip?
Snow and freezing rain slow both the 401 and the 407, and the long crossing from Markham to Pearson gives the weather more chances to cause delays. From November to April our cars run winter tires. After a snowfall, dispatch moves early airport pickups 10–20 minutes earlier and messages you. If the route changes because of a closure, your confirmed fare does not.
