Car service to Guildwood station means a pre-booked chauffeur drops you at the GO and VIA station at 4105 Kingston Road, Scarborough, and collects you on your return train. It avoids the limited shared parking, which commuters fill on weekdays. From downtown Toronto the station is about 25 km (25–40 min); from Pickering or Ajax about 20 km (20–30 min). The fixed fare shows before you book.
Most people in the east end think of Guildwood as a commuter stop, but it is also where many VIA trips to Kingston, Ottawa and Montreal begin. Our Guildwood station car service page covers transfers to Pearson and downtown. This post is about the station itself: getting there, the parking question, and getting home again after a long train ride.
Why book a car service to Guildwood station at all?
Because the station works best when you do not have to leave a car there. VIA describes Guildwood as unstaffed, with parking shared with GO Transit, and on weekdays the GO commuters arrive first. If you are leaving for three days in Ottawa, you are asking a busy commuter lot to hold your car through several weekday mornings. A drop-off and a booked pickup on your return removes that question. It also helps households with one car: the car stays at home for whoever needs it, and nobody has to do a late-night station run when you come back.
How does the parking actually compare with a drop-off?
| Question | Drive and park | Pre-booked drop-off and pickup |
|---|---|---|
| Space on a weekday morning | competes with GO commuters | not needed |
| Multi-day VIA trip | car sits in a shared lot | car stays at home |
| Luggage from car to platform | you carry it from wherever you parked | set down at the front of the station |
| Late return in winter | clear the snow off your car first | heated car waiting, train tracked |
| Who drives home after a long trip | you | the chauffeur |
| Groups and families | one car may not fit everyone | SUV or Sprinter sized to the party |
Check current parking rules on gotransit.com and VIA's station page on viarail.ca, because both operators update their notices.
Who uses Guildwood instead of Union Station?
From our dispatch log, the patterns are clear. Scarborough families heading to Kingston or Ottawa use it to skip the drive downtown. Pickering and Ajax residents use it for VIA trips east. Students going home to Queen's or to Ottawa universities use it at the start and end of term. Visitors arriving from Montreal for a family event in Markham or Durham leave the train here rather than riding on to Union and doubling back. For any of them, a car to the platform beats a bus with two suitcases, and a car home beats waiting for a taxi at an unstaffed station.
How early should you arrive for a VIA train at Guildwood?
There is no check-in desk and no checked baggage service at Guildwood, according to VIA, so you board with your own bags. That simplifies the arrival time, but it does not remove the risk of the 401 or Kingston Road. As a planning rule, we set the drop-off 20–30 minutes before the train, and earlier on Friday afternoons and holiday weekends when Kingston Road and the 401 slow down. If the train is a VIA departure that does not stop at Guildwood every day, double-check the timetable on viarail.ca before you book; not every corridor train stops there.
How long is the drive to Guildwood from around the east end?
Planning figures by black car to the Kingston Road station; the reservation engine quotes the exact fixed fare for your address.

| Toronto Pearson (YYZ) | about 45 km | 35–55 min |
| Scarborough Town Centre | about 8 km | 10–15 min |
| The Beaches | about 13 km | 15–25 min |

What happens when you come home on a late train?
This is where a booked car earns its keep. Guildwood is quiet late at night, and in winter the platform is cold. Give us the VIA or GO train number at booking and dispatch follows the train live. Waiting is 15 minutes from the actual arrival, then 15-minute blocks, and you are messaged before any extra time starts. If your train from Montreal is held at Kingston, the chauffeur adjusts; the delay before arrival does not count against you. The chauffeur texts the exact spot at the front of the station so you know which tunnel exit to take.

What mistakes do people make with Guildwood trips?
- Assuming every VIA train stops there. Some do, some do not. Check the timetable.
- Packing for checked baggage. VIA lists no checked baggage service at Guildwood. Pack bags you can lift onto the train.
- Forgetting the accessibility notice. VIA says the wheelchair lift needs 48 hours' notice. Arrange it with VIA directly.
- Booking a sedan for a family of five. Tell us passengers and bags so we send an SUV or van.
- Leaving the car home pickup to the last minute. Late trains on Sunday evenings are popular; book the return at the same time as the outbound.
Which vehicle suits a Guildwood run?
One or two travellers with a suitcase each fit a business sedan. A family heading to a cottage week via Kingston, with bags and a stroller, needs an SUV. A wedding party arriving together from Ottawa travels in a Sprinter luxury van with room for twelve. Child seats are available at booking. We have a wheelchair-accessible vehicle for anyone who must stay seated in a wheelchair or scooter, available when booked in advance; the chauffeur folds and stows a wheelchair or walker for passengers who can transfer to a seat.
Is GO Transit or a car better from Guildwood to downtown?
For one commuter heading to an office near Union on a weekday, the GO train is the obvious answer, and we say so. A car makes sense when the destination is not near Union, when several people share the trip, when bags are involved, or late in the evening. By road, Guildwood to the Financial District is about 25 km and 25–40 minutes via Kingston Road and the Gardiner or the Don Valley Parkway. For trips that continue to the airport, our UP Express schedule post explains why early flights are easier by car than by GO plus UP Express.
Can one car handle a station drop and a full day?
Yes, with the hourly chauffeur service. One car and one chauffeur stay with you for a three-hour minimum or a whole day, with extra time in 30-minute blocks. An east-end example: collect a relative off a VIA train at Guildwood at 10 a.m., drive to a medical appointment at a Scarborough hospital, lunch in the Beaches, and home to Ajax by mid-afternoon, with the luggage in the trunk all day. When there are more than two stops or any waiting, hourly is usually the better booking than separate one-way rides.
What about trips from Guildwood to Pearson?
If a VIA train brings you into Guildwood and you are connecting to a flight, the drive west along the 401 is about 45 km and 35–55 minutes, longer at rush hour. That pinch point between the 427 and the Don Valley Parkway is the reason dispatch sets these pickups around traffic, not just your flight. The car drops you at Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 directly; Pearson's ground transportation page describes both terminals. Our Pearson airport page covers how drop-offs work.
Students, term dates and Guildwood
Term starts and ends bring a rush of students and parents through east-end stations, with boxes, bikes left behind and suitcases that do not quite close. A parent meeting a student off a VIA train from Kingston can book an SUV and fit a semester's worth of belongings in one trip. For students flying home internationally, the run from Guildwood to Pearson is often easier than taking GO to Union and then the UP Express. Book early for the last week of April and the end of term in December, which are busy.
Visiting family in Scarborough and Durham
Many Guildwood pickups are relatives arriving for a wedding, a funeral or a holiday. A pre-booked car means they are met at the station rather than left waiting for a bus, and the chauffeur takes them to the house, a hotel or the event venue. For visits that include hotel stays, our Scarborough hotels page and Durham Region hotels page list the options, and our travel desk can book rooms and flights for relatives coming from further away.
How does winter change a Guildwood trip?
From December to March, the walk from a far corner of the lot to the platform, with a suitcase on unploughed snow, is the part travellers remember. Kingston Road and the 401 also slow down after a storm, and a train that is on time can still be missed if the drive is not. Our cars run on winter tires from November to April, and after a snowfall dispatch moves station drop-offs earlier and messages you the new time. On the return, the chauffeur is waiting with the heater on, so you go from a warm train to a warm car without standing on an open platform. If a storm closes roads, dispatch calls to discuss the plan rather than leaving you to guess.
What does the fixed fare include?
The reservation engine shows a fixed fare before you confirm: chauffeur, vehicle, fuel and gratuity, with HST shown separately, and airport fees on airport trips. No surge, no meter. The fare changes with the vehicle class, the distance and time, extra stops, waiting beyond what is included, the date and season, and add-ons such as child seats or meet and greet, which are available at booking. See how our fares work.
