A car seat taxi in Toronto is easiest to arrange in advance. Ontario rules exempt taxis carrying passengers for hire from the child-seat requirement, so a cab at the rank may have no seat at all. TorontoBlackLimousine.com fits infant, convertible or booster seats at booking, sized to your child's weight, for Pearson, Billy Bishop and every other airport run. Book direct and the seat is installed before pickup.
Parents searching for a car seat taxi in Toronto usually have a flight in the next few days and one worry: how the baby gets from the front door to the terminal safely. Our Toronto airport limo service handles that every day, with the seat chosen and fitted before the chauffeur leaves the garage. This post is the parents' version of that service: what to ask for, what to pack and how the day actually unfolds.
Can you get a car seat taxi in Toronto, and how does it work?
Yes, but only reliably if you book ahead. The provincial page on choosing a child car seat sets out the stages every parent in Ontario follows, and it also lists who is exempt: taxi drivers transporting a passenger for hire, and buses or public vehicles carrying passengers for hire. In plain terms, a cab you flag on Front Street is not obliged to carry a seat, and most do not have one ready in the right size.
A pre-booked black car is different because the seat is part of the reservation. You tell the reservation engine how many children are travelling, their ages and weights, and which seat each one needs. Dispatch puts the correct seat in the correct vehicle, the chauffeur installs it before leaving, and the car arrives ready. Child seats are available at booking, listed with the other add-ons, so nothing is improvised at the curb.
Which seat should I request for a baby, a toddler or a school-age child?
Use Ontario's stages as your guide, and give us the weight rather than the age, because weight decides the seat:
- Infant (rear-facing): babies up to 9 kg (20 lb). If you are bringing your own infant carrier with a base, say so; if not, we supply a rear-facing seat.
- Convertible (forward-facing for toddlers): children from 9 to 18 kg (20 to 40 lb) who have outgrown the infant seat. Many parents keep toddlers rear-facing for longer in a convertible seat, and you can ask for that.
- Booster: children from 18 to 36 kg (40 to 80 lb), under the age of 8 and under 145 cm (4 ft 9 in) tall.
When a child reaches age 8, 36 kg or 145 cm, a seat belt alone is allowed. If your child sits on the boundary between two stages, tell us both the weight and the height and we will send the seat that keeps them in the safer stage.
Should I bring my own car seat on the plane instead?
It depends on the trip. Bringing your own seat means you know its history and your child is used to it, and many airlines let a seat travel as checked baggage or be used on board when you buy the child a seat. The downside is carrying it through two airports. On the Toronto end of the journey you can remove that problem: we supply the seat for the drive, and your own seat can stay at home or go in the hold for the drive at your destination.
Either way, check your airline's own rules on seats before you fly; they differ by carrier and by aircraft.
What does a family airport run to Pearson look like, hour by hour?
Here is a realistic departure for two adults, a toddler and a baby flying overseas from Terminal 3 at 7 p.m., starting in Leslieville:
- Day before: you confirm the pickup time the dispatcher suggested, and double-check seat sizes in the booking.
- 3:15 p.m.: the chauffeur texts the car's colour and plate. The convertible seat and the infant seat are already fitted.
- 3:30 p.m.: pickup. The chauffeur loads cases, the folded stroller and the diaper bag while you buckle the children in.
- 3:30 to 4:20 p.m.: the drive. Pearson is about 27 km from downtown, 25 to 45 minutes normally, but a weekday afternoon on the Gardiner and the 427 can stretch it. Leslieville adds a few kilometres.
- 4:20 p.m.: drop-off at the Terminal 3 departures curb. The chauffeur unloads, unfolds the stroller and you walk in with time for bag drop, a diaper change and a snack.
The margin looks generous until you have checked in a car seat, a stroller and two children. Families are never the travellers who arrive too early.
Which vehicle fits a family, the seats and the luggage?
Seats take space, and that is where many bookings go wrong. A business sedan seats two passengers with two bags; one adult plus a baby in an infant seat fits, but two adults and two children with checked cases do not. For most families the right answer is an SUV of the Yukon XL or Suburban class, which carries six passengers and four large bags, or a premier luxury SUV for a quieter cabin. Families of five or more, or two families travelling together, are happier in a Sprinter luxury van, where every child seat has its own place and the stroller rides with the cases.

How is the seat installed, and can I check it?
The chauffeur installs the seat before the trip, following the seat maker's instructions for that vehicle. You are welcome to check it before your child goes in, and we encourage it: a firm tug at the base, the harness at the right height, the recline set for an infant. If anything is not as you like it, say so at the curb and the chauffeur adjusts it with you. Parents who bring their own seat can ask the chauffeur to install it or do it themselves; please allow a few extra minutes in the pickup time if you plan to install your own.
What happens on arrival at Pearson with a baby?
Arrivals are where children are tiredest. On every airport pickup we track the flight, so a delay moves the chauffeur automatically. Included waiting starts from actual landing: 30 minutes on Canadian domestic and US flights, 60 minutes on other international arrivals. With a baby, customs, the bag hall and a stroller hunt can eat most of that hour, which is why the international allowance is longer.
The fare includes curbside pickup at the terminal's commercial pre-arranged pickup area; Pearson describes how that area works on its pre-arranged services page. If you would rather have help inside, meet & greet with a name board is an optional add-on at booking, and many parents choose it so a second pair of hands appears before the luggage trolley does. Our blog on the Pearson international arrivals pickup plan walks through the arrivals hall step by step.
Is the UP Express or a taxi ever better for a family?
Sometimes, and we would rather say so. The UP Express runs from Union Station to Terminal 1 in about 28 minutes, with stops at Bloor, Mount Dennis and Weston. If you live near Union, travel light, fly from Terminal 1 and your child is happy in a carrier, the train is simple. A taxi from the rank works if your child already rides on a seat belt alone.
A pre-booked car wins when a child needs a seat, when you are flying from Terminal 3, when you have more than a cabin bag each, when the flight is early or late, or when the trip starts in the suburbs. For a fuller comparison, see our guide to the UP Express versus a limo.
How do Billy Bishop and the regional airports work with children?
Billy Bishop on the Toronto Island is only 3 to 5 km and 10 to 20 minutes from the Financial District. Cars use the mainland pavilion on Eireann Quay, and you walk through the pedestrian tunnel, about 260 m with moving walkways, or take the short ferry; the airport explains both on its pick-up and drop-off page. With a stroller, the tunnel is usually easier than you expect.
Hamilton (YHM) is about 75 km and 55 to 80 minutes from downtown, and Waterloo (YKF) about 110 km and 75 to 95 minutes. On longer drives, ask for a planned stop if your toddler needs one; the chauffeur will build it into the timing rather than rushing past the last service centre.
When does an hourly chauffeur make sense for a family trip?
More often than parents think. If you are landing at Pearson, collecting a grandparent in Mississauga, stopping at a pharmacy and then heading to a cottage, three separate one-way rides with seats moved each time is a poor plan. Our hourly chauffeur service keeps one car, one chauffeur and the same fitted seats with you for a 3-hour minimum, with extra time in 30-minute blocks. The seats stay installed all day, the luggage stays in the trunk and nobody re-buckles a sleeping toddler into a new car.
What do parents most often get wrong when booking?
- Giving ages instead of weights. A tall two-year-old and a small three-year-old may need different seats.
- Booking a sedan for a family. Two seats and two strollers rarely fit with checked bags.
- Forgetting the return. Book the arrival at the same time as the departure so the seats are reserved both ways.
- Leaving no margin. Pearson's check-in queues move slower with a car seat at the bag drop.
- Not mentioning a second child. Twins and siblings each need their own seat, listed separately.
How do I book a car with a child seat?
Book on our own reservation engine, on any page or at the booking page. There is no app to download and no marketplace commission.
- Enter the pickup address and the airport, or the flight number for an arrival.
- Choose passengers and bags; the engine offers only vehicles that fit.
- Add each child seat by type, and note weights and heights in the booking notes.
- See the fixed all-in fare, with HST shown separately, and confirm.
The fare covers the chauffeur, the vehicle, fuel, airport fees and gratuity. The cancellation policy is measured from the scheduled pickup: more than 72 hours before is free, 72 hours or less is 10 %, 48 hours or less is 50 %, and 24 hours or less or a no-show is 100 %.
Can you help with grandparents or relatives arriving with children?
Yes, and it is a different booking problem: the person in the car is not you, and you may not even be at the airport. Our companion post on a taxi with a car seat for family arrivals covers booking on someone else's behalf, sharing the chauffeur's details and planning several flights on one day. For larger reunions, see our page on family arrivals and reunions.
Can the travel desk organise the flights and hotel too?
If the trip is still being planned, our travel desk can help with flights, hotel stays and packages, and the car is added to the same plan so the pickup time follows the itinerary. Families staying near the airport the night before an early flight often book one of the Pearson airport hotels and take a short car ride in the morning instead of a long one at 4 a.m. Transport Canada's guidance on travelling safely with children is a sensible read before any trip.

How do the options compare for a family going to the airport?
