The best things to do in Mississauga for a day are the Port Credit waterfront, Rattray Marsh, Kariya Park, Celebration Square and Square One, with dinner in Port Credit or Streetsville. They are 10–20 km apart, so a car helps. Mississauga's City Centre is about 30 km (30–45 min) from downtown Toronto and about 15 km (15–25 min) from Pearson; an hourly chauffeur links every stop.

Mississauga is usually where people land, not where they plan a day out, and that undersells it. Our Mississauga car service page covers airport runs, business travel and weddings. This post is the leisure side: a realistic day plan, stop by stop, and how a private driver makes a spread-out city easy to enjoy.

What are the best things to do in Mississauga in one day?

For a first visit, aim for a mix of lake, green space and the City Centre. The core list:

  • Port Credit: the village on the lake at the mouth of the Credit River, with a marina, a lighthouse landmark, the Waterfront Trail and plenty of restaurants.
  • Rattray Marsh Conservation Area: boardwalks through a lakeside wetland in Lorne Park, managed by Credit Valley Conservation.
  • Kariya Park: a small Japanese-style garden in the City Centre, a quiet half hour.
  • Celebration Square: the civic square in front of City Hall, with festivals, outdoor concerts and winter skating.
  • Square One: one of the region's largest shopping centres (sq1district.com).
  • Streetsville: a historic main street with independent shops and restaurants.

Tourism Mississauga lists current events, and the City of Mississauga's site (mississauga.ca) lists parks and facilities.

Why is a car the right tool in Mississauga?

Distance. Mississauga covers a large area, and the highlights are spread from the lakeshore to the City Centre and north to Streetsville. Transit links them, but with changes and waits, and parking in Port Credit on a summer weekend is its own project. With our hourly chauffeur service, one car and one chauffeur stay with you for a three-hour minimum or the whole day, with extra time in 30-minute blocks. The car waits at each stop, holds your shopping and coats, and takes you to the next place without anyone checking a map.

What does a sample chauffeured day look like?

Here is a six-hour plan our dispatchers suggest, starting from downtown Toronto. Distances and times between stops are typical planning figures.

  1. 10:00 Pickup downtown. Gardiner and QEW west to Port Credit, about 25 km, 25–35 min.
  2. 10:35 Port Credit: walk the waterfront and the marina, coffee on Lakeshore Road.
  3. 11:45 Short drive west to Rattray Marsh, about 8 km, 10–15 min. Boardwalk loop.
  4. 13:00 Lunch back in Port Credit or in Clarkson village.
  5. 14:30 Up to the City Centre, about 12 km, 15–20 min. Kariya Park, then Celebration Square.
  6. 15:30 Square One for shopping, with the car waiting nearby.
  7. 17:00 Dinner in Streetsville, about 10 km, 15 min, or back to Port Credit.
  8. 18:30 Home to downtown Toronto, about 30 km, 30–45 min.

How far are Mississauga's sights from Toronto and Pearson?

These are planning figures; the reservation engine quotes the exact fixed fare for your route.

Is Mississauga a good stopover before or after a Pearson flight?

It is one of the best uses of a long layover or a late flight. Pearson sits inside Mississauga, so the City Centre is about 15 km away and Port Credit about 20 km. A traveller landing in the morning with an evening departure does not need to find a luggage locker: the chauffeur meets you at Pearson's pre-arranged pickup area on the arrivals curb (see Pearson's pre-arranged services), keeps the bags in the trunk, and returns you to Terminal 1 or 3 with a margin before your check-in cut-off. Meet and greet inside the arrivals hall is an optional add-on. Check your own entry requirements before leaving the airport.

What is there to do in Port Credit?

Port Credit is the easiest half day in Mississauga. The village grew up where the Credit River meets Lake Ontario, and today it has a marina, waterfront parks, the Waterfront Trail running east and west, and a long stretch of restaurants, pubs and cafés on Lakeshore Road. Summer weekends bring festivals and busy patios; spring and autumn are calmer. A chauffeur sets you down on Lakeshore Road where stopping is allowed and waits nearby, which matters because the village's parking fills quickly on fine days. It is also a favourite spot for engagement and wedding photos by the water.

What about nature: Rattray Marsh, Riverwood and the Credit valley?

For green space, Mississauga does better than its reputation. Rattray Marsh, managed by Credit Valley Conservation, has boardwalks and trails through one of the last lakeshore marshes in the area, with herons and migrating birds in spring and autumn. The Credit River valley runs north through the city, with parks such as Erindale Park along the river, and the Riverwood Conservancy near Burnhamthorpe Road offers gardens and woodland trails. Wear proper shoes and check each site's notices on the day. The car waits at the trailhead or parking area.

What can families do in Mississauga?

Families tend to combine a park, lunch and something indoors in case of rain. Celebration Square hosts free festivals in summer and skating in winter; Square One has food courts and rainy-day space; Port Credit's waterfront parks give small children room to run. For a bigger family outing, Canada's Wonderland in Vaughan is about 40 km north of the City Centre, and the Square One page covers entrances and drop-off. A family of six with a stroller fits an SUV; child seats are available at booking.

Where should you eat during a Mississauga day?

Mississauga is one of the most diverse cities in Canada, and its food reflects that: South Asian, Middle Eastern, Portuguese, Korean, Chinese, Filipino and Caribbean restaurants, from plazas near Hurontario to the strip along Dundas. Port Credit and Streetsville are the easiest walkable dining districts. We do not recommend specific restaurants here, because openings and hours change, but your chauffeur can set you down at any address and wait, and an hourly booking means a long dinner never forces a rushed taxi home.

What is happening at Celebration Square?

Celebration Square, in front of Mississauga City Hall, is the city's main outdoor event space. It hosts festivals, concerts, movie nights and cultural events in the warmer months, and a skating rink in winter. Event dates change each year, so check mississauga.ca and Tourism Mississauga before you plan around one. Big event nights mean road closures and heavy pedestrian traffic around Burnhamthorpe and City Centre Drive; the chauffeur picks a set-down point that avoids the closures and texts you the exact pickup spot when it is time to go.

What are the mistakes to avoid on a Mississauga day?

  • Trying to do it all by transit in one day. MiWay and GO cover the city, but linking the lakeshore, the City Centre and Streetsville means several changes.
  • Ignoring event road closures. Big nights at Celebration Square close streets around City Hall; plan the set-down with your chauffeur.
  • Underestimating summer parking in Port Credit. Fine weekends fill the lots early.
  • Booking one-way rides between stops. With four stops and waiting at each, an hourly booking is simpler than a string of separate rides, and the car is always where you left it.
  • Forgetting the weather. Boardwalks at Rattray Marsh can be wet or icy; pack proper shoes and keep an indoor fallback.

Which vehicle suits a Mississauga day out?

For a couple, the first-class sedan turns a sightseeing day into a treat; the business sedan is the practical everyday choice. Families and friends fit an SUV or premier luxury SUV with six seats and room for four bags. A group of up to seven, such as a family reunion or a birthday outing, travels together in an executive Sprinter. Stretch limousines for celebrations come from vetted partner operators in the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network with a four-hour minimum.

How do seasons change the plan?

Summer is festival and patio season, with busy Port Credit weekends. Spring and autumn are best for Rattray Marsh, with migrating birds and colour along the Credit River. Winter shifts the day indoors: Square One, a museum or gallery, and skating at Celebration Square, with our cars on winter tires from November to April. Whatever the season, check Ontario 511 for QEW and 403 closures if you are coming from downtown. Shorter winter days also mean an earlier finish for outdoor stops, so put the lakeshore and the marsh first and leave shopping and dinner for after dark.

Can you combine Mississauga with Oakville or a shopping day?

Yes. Oakville is about 20 km west of Mississauga's City Centre, with its own lakeside downtown; our Oakville page covers it. Shoppers often pair Square One with Toronto Premium Outlets in Halton Hills for a full retail day. Visitors staying in Mississauga can browse our Mississauga hotels page, and if you are planning flights and rooms together, the travel desk can arrange them with your transfers. For the commute side of life in Mississauga, our sibling post compares every option from Mississauga to downtown Toronto.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What is Mississauga known for?

Mississauga is known as the home of Toronto Pearson, as a major business centre, and for Square One and its City Centre towers. Visitors also enjoy the Port Credit waterfront, the Credit River valley, Rattray Marsh, Celebration Square's festivals and a very diverse food scene. Most highlights are 10–20 km apart, so a car makes a day out easier.

How far is Mississauga from downtown Toronto?

Mississauga City Centre is about 30 km from Union Station, typically 30–45 minutes by car via the QEW or Highway 403 and the Gardiner Expressway. Port Credit, on the lake, is a little closer at about 25 km. Weekday rush hours and Gardiner closures add time, so allow a buffer.

Can I visit Mississauga on a layover at Pearson?

Yes, if your layover is long enough and your entry documents allow you to leave the airport. The City Centre is about 15 km and Port Credit about 20 km from Pearson. A chauffeur meets you at the pre-arranged pickup area, keeps your bags in the trunk and returns you to your terminal with time to spare before check-in closes.

Is Port Credit worth visiting?

Yes. Port Credit is Mississauga's lakeside village at the mouth of the Credit River, with a marina, waterfront parks, the Waterfront Trail and many restaurants and cafés on Lakeshore Road. It is busiest on summer weekends. A chauffeur sets you down where stopping is allowed and waits nearby, which avoids the search for parking.

What can families do in Mississauga for free?

Families enjoy Celebration Square's free summer festivals and winter skating, the waterfront parks in Port Credit, the boardwalks at Rattray Marsh and parks along the Credit River. Check the City of Mississauga and Tourism Mississauga sites for current events, because dates change each year. Child seats are available at booking for car trips.

How do I book a driver for a day in Mississauga?

Book the hourly chauffeur service on TorontoBlackLimousine.com at /book/. Choose hourly, enter your pickup address and the number of passengers, and list your planned stops in the notes. Sedans, SUVs, vans and Sprinters have a three-hour minimum, with extra time in 30-minute blocks, and the fixed fare shows before you confirm.

Is it better to drive myself or book a chauffeur in Mississauga?

If you are visiting one place, driving yourself is fine. For a day with four or five stops, a chauffeur saves the parking hunts in Port Credit and at events, lets everyone enjoy lunch and dinner without a designated driver, and keeps shopping secure in the car. Visitors without a car also avoid multiple transit transfers across a large city.

Why TorontoBlackLimousine.com

What separates a private chauffeur from a ride with a stranger

The standard our chauffeurs work to is on the chauffeurs page; what each transfer costs, and why, is on the rates page; when an hourly booking beats a one-way trip is in this guide.

01

A private chauffeur, by the hour

Keep one black car and one chauffeur for three hours or the whole day: a Bay Street meeting, lunch in Yorkville, a site visit in Vaughan, a Niagara tasting, the flight home from Pearson. The car waits outside; you never queue for another ride.

02

A fixed fare, booked direct

The engine prices the exact address, date and vehicle before you confirm - 407 ETR tolls when used, airport fees and gratuity included. No surge after a Leafs game, no meter on the Gardiner, and no aggregator taking a cut.

03

Flights and trains, tracked

Pearson Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 and Billy Bishop flights are tracked from take-off; VIA, GO and UP Express arrivals at Union Station from departure. Thirty minutes free on Canadian and US flights, sixty on other international arrivals.

04

Chauffeurs who read Toronto traffic

Licensed for passengers for hire, screened and suited; routes chosen on live traffic across the Gardiner, the DVP, the 401 collectors and express lanes, the 427, the 407 ETR and the QEW - and around the lane closures and game-day crowds downtown.

05

Airports, Union Station, jets and the border

Pearson, Billy Bishop, Hamilton, Waterloo, Buffalo, Niagara Falls NY and Detroit; Union Station and the GO and VIA stations; private aviation; and cross-border trips over the Peace Bridge, Rainbow Bridge, Lewiston-Queenston or into Detroit.

06

A desk that answers

Dispatch staffed around the clock by phone, chat and WhatsApp; a coordinator for weddings, proms, party buses, delegations, trade shows and corporate accounts.
